(NAS) 2 Samuel 16:10 But the king said, “What business of mine is yours, you sons of Zeruiah? If he curses, and if the Lord has told him, ‘Curse David,’ then who should say, ‘Why have you done so?’”

(NAS) 2 Samuel 16:11 Then David said to Abishai and to all his servants, “Behold, my son who came out of my own body seeks my life; how much more now this Benjaminite? Leave him alone and let him curse, for the Lord has told him.

(NAS) 2 Samuel 16:12 Perhaps the Lord will look on my misery and return good to me instead of his cursing this day.”

(NAS) 2 Samuel 16:13 So David and his men went on the road; and Shimei kept going on the hillside close beside him, and as he went he cursed and threw stones and dirt at him.

(NAS) 2 Samuel 16:14 And the king and all the people who were with him arrived exhausted, and he refreshed himself there.

(NAS) 2 Samuel 16:15 Then Absalom and all the people, the men of Israel, entered Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him.

(NAS) 2 Samuel 16:16 Now it came about, when Hushai the Archite, David’s friend, came to Absalom, that Hushai said to Absalom, “Long live the king! Long live the king!”

(NAS) 2 Samuel 16:17 But Absalom said to Hushai, “Is this your loyalty to your friend? Why did you not go with your friend?”

(NAS) 2 Samuel 16:18 So Hushai said to Absalom, “No! For whomever the Lord, this people, and all the men of Israel have chosen, his I shall be, and with him I shall remain.

(NAS) 2 Samuel 16:19 Besides, whom should I serve? Should I not serve in the presence of his son? Just as I have served in your father’s presence, so I shall be in your presence.”

(NAS) 2 Samuel 16:20 Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, “Give your advice. What should we do?”

 

[Thigbee]

(NAS) 2 Samuel 16:21 Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Have relations with your father’s concubines, whom he has left behind to take care of the house; then all Israel will hear that you have made yourself repulsive to your father. The hands of all who are with you will also be strengthened.”

(NAS) 2 Samuel 16:22 So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the roof, and Absalom had relations with his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel.

(NAS) 2 Samuel 16:23 Now the advice of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was taken as though one inquired of the word of God; so was all the advice of Ahithophel regarded by both David and Absalom.

(NAS) 2 Samuel 17:1 Furthermore, Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Please let me choose twelve thousand men and let me set out and pursue David tonight.

(NAS) 2 Samuel 17:2 And I will attack him while he is weary and exhausted and startle him, so that all the people who are with him will flee. Then I will strike and kill the king when he is alone,

(NAS) 2 Samuel 17:3 and I will bring all the people back to you. The return of everyone depends on the man whom you are seeking; then all the people will be at peace.”

(NAS) 2 Samuel 17:4 And the plan pleased Absalom and all the elders of Israel.

 

[Thigbee]

(NAS) 2 Samuel 17:5 Nevertheless, Absalom said, “Now call Hushai the Archite also, and let’s hear what he has to say.”

(NAS) 2 Samuel 17:6 When Hushai had come to Absalom, Absalom said to him, “Ahithophel has proposed this plan. Should we carry out his plan? If not, say so yourself.”
