Nope but I heard he was gonna do it.  I don't know how I feel about that.

I have conflicting feelings about it too. I guess I'm opposed to both abortion and the death penalty. It's really a hard call though. I just pray these men come to know Jesus.

What I find really odd is why did Gov. Ryan wait until 48 hours before he was to step down to do this? What is all for show? I'm originally from Illinois and my parents still live there. I spoke with my mom today, she says that Gov. Ryan is not well liked...so who knows.

What happened to the "Do You Know Her Thread"?
It was relocated to the Staff Trash Bin because of the fighting, arguing, and bickering it contained.
There's a special on the facts around the Inquisition on EWTN. It could help fighting anti-Catholic myths.
Do you know what days and times that's going to be broadcast? I'd like to catch that. :)

It will play again on January 14 3 AM and January 16 1 PM, Eastern time.

It was very informative, describing the forgeries used as propaganda which cause various falsehoods and puts the actions of the Inquisition in the context of Spain and the rest of Europe at the time.

My folks moved up to Illinois (Lincoln) and they said Ryan isn't popular.  I don't know if it's a show or not.  Traditionally, outgoing Presidents issue pardons (look at all the ones former Democratic Socialist Bill Clinton issued) so maybe it's a governor thing, too.

I'm not totally opposed to the death penalty.  Humblejoe makes a good point in saying it's more time for them to repent and you echo that with saying you pray they come to now Jesus.  But then again, our legal system (which from Scripture, we know all authority comes from God) determined these men should be put to death for what I'm sure are horrendous crimes.  I wonder what the victims' families are feeling right now......

Wow small world jukesk, my parents live in Havana...that's about 40 miles northwest of Lincoln.

I was thinking the same thing about the families...I bet they are really upset. I'm just glad that this is above my pay grade, I'd hate to have to make these types of decisions.

I did see on either Fox or CNN the attorney general of Illinois (i think it was the attorney general) anyways, he was really upset. And yes Clinton goofed up BIG TIME didn't he with all of his pardons as well as the 'other' stuff he did in office.:(

From what little I have read about victim's families in general, they are often told that the execution will bring closure but it never does. Hopefully, this will give them the opportunity to forgive the offender while he or she is still alive. I also second Joe's comment on the offender's ability to reasess their lives and find God.

Vengeance never satisfies. :sigh: Only Love can heal.

Well, I jumped head-on into the "cleaning my room" thread on RR. I'm having 4 different discussions at once on that thread -- but hopefully for some purpose! :)

I've been trying to join you masochists (defenders of the faith), but I'm still waiting for my account to activate. I can't even vote in a poll.

edit: as always, confused sadism and masochism :o

I hate to see all you nice people going over to RR.

Remember in "The Lost Boys", the young teens were fighting the vampires and they put Holy Water in squirt guns?

I'd suggest anyone going over to RaptureReady do the same thing.
There's something almost unholy about that place .

(Of course, that could be because one of the RR regulars told me my daughter was going to HELL!! I'm sensitive that way.)

Wow, Annabel, you are truly blessed. Since only God knows the state of anyone's soul, that poster must have been God!

Oh, drat. Look, all the magic smoke came out of my optimism engine; I guess I must have overloaded it somehow.
