I don't know if this will go over well, but I might have to add him to a list of non-patriots or something. I just though that some on this web site might find some of his ideas, well interesting. (I've to a site that hates his lyrics as well, and says Stryper is a band of drunks, but I don't believe that one, just because it seems to be stretching facts to fit its ideas). Anyway, I'm a fan and what he said here doesn't bother me, but I wonder if anyone would find his view on politics and America interesting as stated in this article. (I could have posted this in Politics I suppose, but this is more his viewpoint than a political issue).

His approach, while crude, is a refreshing change from the Patriotic American side. I too am a patriot for my country, and I know that one day, the U.S. will no longer be the dominant nation that it is. Only, when that day comes, I'll already be in Heaven along w/all others caught up with the Rapture. I too see allot of hypocrisy in the churches and we don't need to involve ourselves with political issues.

Two things:

1) Who the heck is Steve Taylor?

2) Like the Dixie Chicks, Kanye West, Barbara Streisand, Tim Robbins, etc., Steve Taylor's "celebrity" does not give him the authority to tell me or anyone else how to think or how to vote or whatever. Celebrities should keep their political opinions to themselves. Or at least, not use their celebrity status as a bully pulpit to pimp their political causes.

I read it, but I suppose that there is a lot of stuff involved with the interview not discussed that would be helpful in connecting the dots.
IOW - I found the interview superficial and not really saying much - a lot missing.

Okay, a little more details on good old Steven for those who do not know who he is. Let's go to his musical background. He appeared in the early '80's to the Christian music scene. He is quite different from other artists of his genre. He gets into political things, most likely accidentally, but it's more like what he believes is ethical/ unethical. He made one song that would probably not go very well with liberals and a few that might urk them. However, he also made classics like "I Blew Up the Clinic Real Good" that caused trouble with both sides of the issue. He was trying to be sarcastic about abortion clinic bombers as in "how can they blow up entire buildings for their right to life cause?" Well, those who do not like going through his songs and trying to find out what they mean, just didn't get the point. Like I've said before, it doesn't pay to be too intelligent at times, practically no one will understand you. He also had a song called "Baby Doe" that went against using pro-choice ideas to starve a young infant to death because he/she was retarded.
He also very anti-business though--which means he very much dislikes the shameful tactics they use to operate as usual. He doesn't like Oliver North, as from the quote from this web site. He doesn't like Jimmy Swaggart and some other televangelists. Swaggart especially, as his song "Guilty by Association" kind of gets a stab at the preachers anti-christian rock sentiment. See the following website for what Jimmy Swaggart turned out to be and an interesting mention of Bush Sr.:

Maybe I should also post a further link of information on Steve:

And perhaps another (background info.):

Here's his involvement with U2 and the African Aids crisis(although I hate posting this because of my sentiments about a certain person mentioned in it):

An interesting song of his was the one called "Smug" in which he mentions Rush Limbaugh and Barbara Streisand as masters of politcal smugness.
Lyrics below:

He was also the lead singer of Chagall Guevara. One of their songs made it into the movie "Pump Up the Volume." However they broke up due to the stress of the record label they signed on to was folding. Here is a link to the band's song lyrics:

Anyway, he's pretty much decided to get into Christian filmaking now. I wish he'd make a new album though, but who knows if I would like what he says this time around. I think he sang with a group of Christian artists lately on a song promoting African Aids awareness, but I'll have to find it. Otherwise, it doesn't look hopeful for new albums.
Well, anyway, he is not liberal nor conservative, but he sure is liberal about his conservative ideas.
