There is an unjustifiable theory out there that says the veil being torn separating the Holy Places from the Holy of Holies means that there is no barrier separating sinful people from a Holy God. A couple of scriptures show this to be completely false.
"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me." John 14:6
"Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; and having a great priest over the house of God..." Hebrews 10:19-21
The way is not laid open. There is still a veil:
"One who has my commandments, and keeps them, that person is one who loves me. One who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him, and will reveal myself to him." Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, "Lord, what has happened that you are about to reveal yourself to us, and not to the world?" Jesus answered him, "If a man loves me, he will keep my word. My Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our home with him. He who doesn't love me doesn't keep my words. The word which you hear isn't mine, but the Father's who sent me." John 14:21-24
It should also be noted that when the veil was torn, there no Ark inside!
