There has been much question and inaccurate information of late about the nature of “unpardonable sin” that I felt it needs to be explained from a scholar’s Scriptural standpoint and not the TV preachers point of view.

Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum for those who don’t know is a Hebrew scholar and Christian writer of many books on prophecy and history from the expert perspective only available to someone with a Jewish background.

Originally from Dr. A Fruchenbaum’s website at www.ariel.org

[FONT=Arial, sans-serif]INTRODUCTION[/FONT]

A study on the five warnings of the Book of Hebrews is important for two reasons. The first reason is that these are the passages which people generally use to teach that one can lose one’s salvation. Second, these passages are usually interpreted from a modern, Gentile perspective, even by those who believe in eternal security. But a proper understanding of these Scriptures requires viewing them from the Jewish perspective of the first century.

[FONT=Arial, sans-serif]THE PURPOSE OF THE BOOK OF HEBREWS[/FONT]

The Book of Hebrews was written to a body of Jewish believers in the Land of Israel, believers who were seriously considering going back into Judaism because of the severe persecution they were facing. They thought that they could temporarily give up their salvation and go back into Judaism until the persecution subsided. Then, they could accept the Messiah all over again, and their new salvation would erase the sin of the previous apostasy. That was the option they thought they had. Therefore, the writer of Hebrews wanted to write to them and tell them that they do not have the option they think they have: they do not have the option of giving up their salvation; going back into Judaism; and being saved again later.

They do have one of two options. The first is to go back into Judaism, an option that would not mean the loss of their salvation but rather, the loss of their physical life. Often in Gentile thinking, the assumption is that the word "save" or "salvation" only refers to spiritual salvation. Frequently however, in Jewish writings, it has to do with physical salvation, and that is the way these passages in the Book of Hebrews need to be understood. As seen when the five warnings are given, each is correlated with physical judgment and physical death in the Old Testament. Hence, these Jewish believers did not have the option of giving up their salvation and being able to be saved again later. They did have the option to go back into Judaism, but that would mean that they would suffer the judgment of A.D. 70—the judgment for the Unpardonable Sin —and suffer in the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple. They would lose their physical lives.

Their second option was to make the break from Judaism once and for all complete, and press on to spiritual maturity. The writer wants to encourage them to press on to spiritual maturity and so, he shows how the Messiah is superior to three main pillars of Judaism: angels, Moses, and the Levitical System. To go back to Judaism is to go back to something inferior, because that which they have in the Messiah is so much more superior. He basically follows a logical development, a logical argument; however, five times he deviates from his topic to give a warning based upon what he has just said. Space will only allow a discussion of four of these warnings.

[FONT=Arial, sans-serif]THE FIRST WARNING - Hebrews 2:1-4[/FONT]

The first of the five warnings of Hebrews is a parenthetical warning on the danger of drifting away. Verse 1 starts with the word Therefore, a logical connective. He is building on what he had just said in chapter 1. His point in chapter 1 is that Yeshua (Jesus) is superior to angels. Therefore¾ for that very reason¾ we must pay close attention to what he is about to say. Why? lest [they] drift away from it; drift away like a boat that is untied from its mooring will drift out to sea. The Greek word means: "to flow beside or past; to slip off; to slip under; to slip into the wind; to disappear from memory." The emphasis is: that which they have learned, they must not let flow away, to disappear from memory or slip away. His point is that revelation, through the mediation of the Son, carries far more solemn obligations for the recipients than revelation which was mediated through angels or men. God used men to give revelation and God used angels to give revelation. In light of the fact that Yeshua is superior to angels, they must give more earnest heed to what He has revealed.

Then, in verses 2-3a, he points out the impossibility of escaping. This gives the reason why they must pay very close attention. In Greek, it is a first class condition which assumes a fulfilled condition, not merely a possibility: if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast. Did the revelation that came through angels prove steadfast? It certainly did, and sin received its just punishment. But the punishment he is talking about is physical punishment. The word just recompense, or "just punishment" does not refer to the loss of salvation but to the loss of temporal blessings in the form of divine discipline. There are some clear examples in the Old Testament: in Leviticus 10, Nadab and Abihu sinned, and they were stricken dead; in Numbers 16, Korah, Dathan and Abiram rebelled and they were stricken dead; in Joshua 7, Achan disobeyed, and he was stricken dead. The punishment of the Law was not loss of salvation; the punishment of the Law was physical death. If that were true under the Law, how much more is it true of revelation given by the Son!

He concludes in verses 3b-4 "How can anyone escape if they neglect a salvation mediated through the Son?" The phrase: how shall we escape implies that there is no escape possible from a just recompense of reward. It will mean discipline in this life (Hebrews 12:5-11), and it will certainly mean physical death in the coming judgment. The point is that salvation is in their possession, but they are neglecting it or becoming indifferent to it. By neglecting their salvation, believers may put themselves into a position requiring divine discipline. Therefore, the warning is that they must give heed to revelation given by the Son, because He is superior to angels.

[FONT=Arial, sans-serif]THE SECOND WARNING - Hebrews 3:7-4:13[/FONT]

The background to the passage:

The background to what the author is writing about here is in Numbers 13-14; the sin at the Oasis of Kadesh-Barnea. It was here that two of the spies said they could take the Land, while ten said they could not possibly take the Land. The result was a massive rebellion against the authority of Moses and Aaron, who nearly lost their lives in a mob-scene until God intervened. At that point, God entered into a specific judgment against the generation that came out of Egypt. The judgment was that all those who came out of Egypt would continue wandering in the wilderness until forty years had passed. During those forty years, all that came out of Egypt would die, except for the two good spies and those under the age of twenty. Therefore, the "Exodus Generation" lost the privilege of entering the Land. It would be the next generation, the "Wilderness Generation," that would be allowed to enter into the Land under Joshua. The judgment meant that the Exodus Generation was now subject to divine judgment; but the judgment is physical¾ not spiritual in the loss of salvation. In fact, Numbers 14:20 does say that the people repented; it even goes on to say that God forgave the sin. It did not affect anyone’s individual salvation, but the physical consequences of their sin did need to be paid. Once a point of no return is reached, no matter how much repenting one does thereafter, the fact of coming physical judgment cannot be changed. And that is what happened in this case. Even Moses had to die outside the Land because of a specific sin he committed, though this did not affect his individual salvation. Here again, the correlation is: In the Old Testament, the issue is physical death and loss of temporal blessings, but not the loss of salvation.

In Hebrews 3:1-6, the writer pointed out that Jesus the Messiah, is superior to Moses. The massive rebellion occurred under the ever-faithful Moses. Now, One greater than Moses has been here. Will there be another massive rebellion by the Jewish believers?

The admonition against disobedience (Hebrews 3:7-19):

The author begins in Hebrews 3:7-19, with a strong admonition against disobedience, starting with the Old Testament lesson of verses 7-11, which is based upon the sin of Kadesh-Barnea and based upon the Son being greater than Moses. Again he uses the word Wherefore: in light of the fact that Yeshua is greater than Moses, do not apostatize through disobedience. The Exodus Generation failed to enter into the rest of the Promise Land. God sentenced them to physical death outside the Land. The Promised Land is not a type of Heaven, but a type of rest. The point is that a redeemed people may lose blessings, the enjoyment of which were based upon continuous faith. Although they were forgiven for the sin of unbelief, they suffered the physical consequences of unbelief and forfeited the rest that they could have enjoyed in the Promised Land. The judgment was a physical judgment, a physical death. Here again, the issue is not eternal salvation, but rather, that disobedience may result in temporal, physical judgment and the loss of future rewards.

Having dealt with the Old Testament lesson, he now gives the application of the lesson in verses 12-15. Believers ought to beware because they are responsible for their own conduct. They are warned against developing an evil heart of unbelief and parting from the living God as did the Exodus Generation. The sin is deceitful because it tricks them into thinking this is the best way out of their present situation of being persecuted for the faith.

Then, in verses 16-19, he gives the interpretation of the lesson by asking three questions. The first question (v. 16): "Who were the provokers?" The answer: The very people God rescued provoked Him. The very ones who had been delivered from bondage and started out for the Promised Land by faith were the ones who missed the life and Land of rest and because of unbelief. The second question (v. 17): "Who is it that sinned?" Answer: Those who died. But, again, this was physical death. They sinned and suffered its physical consequences. The punishment was physical death because not all who died were spiritually lost. The third question (v. 18): "To whom did He say they would not enter into rest?" Answer: The Exodus Generation. In verse 19, he draws his conclusion:
they could not reach the rest they started out for by faith because of unbelief. The rest is that of the Promised Land. Rebellion meant the loss of promised blessings. Notice that Israel did not lose its status as a redeemed people; they were still the redeemed, chosen people of God. But they did lose the blessing of the Promised Land, and a life of peace and rest in the Land.

The application to the generation of the Book of Hebrews is that they are in a very similar danger. It had been forty years since the Crucifixion, or close to it. Forty years in the wilderness meant that many died. It is nearly forty years now, will many die in the A.D. 70 destruction? They will, if they go back into Judaism just to escape persecution.

[FONT=Arial, sans-serif]THE THIRD WARNING: THE DANGER OF IMMATURITY (Hebrews 5:11-6:20)[/FONT]

This warning is the most extensive and space does not permit a discussion of this warning. See below on how to obtain a manuscript that covers this.

[FONT=Arial, sans-serif]THE FOURTH WARNING: THE DANGER OF WILLFUL SIN (HEBREWS 10:26-31)[/FONT]

The Exhortation (Hebrews 10:19-25)

The primary exhortation is: not forsaking our own assembling together. The Greek word forsaking means "to completely abandon." The commandment is to come together. Verse 25 goes on to say: as the custom of some is. Some are already refusing to identify themselves with believers by not attending the congregational fellowships. So, the exhortation is not to forsake the assembling together, but exhorting one another.

The purpose of the exhortation is: as [you] see the day drawing nigh. The phrase so much the more shows the sense of urgency. The reason for the urgency is that the day is drawing nigh. The day is the [specific] day with a definite article. It refers to a specific time of judgment. And the phrase drawing nigh shows that it is on the verge of occurring. This is the coming judgment for the Unpardonable Sin, the judgment of A.D. 70; it is the judgment that will fall upon Jerusalem which Jesus prophesied in Matthew 24:1-2 and Luke 21:20-24. So, his point is that they must continue coming together for mutual encouragement, because judgment upon that generation of A.D. 70 is fast approaching.

The Warning: (Hebrews 10:26-31)

This leads the author to his fourth warning, which is a warning about the danger of willful sin.

The First Result of Apostasy: Rejection of the Truth

He begins with verse 26, giving a principle for those who reject the truth. He begins with the connective word For; it is the reason for the coming judgment day. The previous verse closed with an admonition to gather together. But in such circumstances, some may refuse to do so, and apostasy might result. So, another warning must now be given: if we sin is in the present tense, giving it a durative, continuous force. It is a continuous condition, not merely one isolated act of sin. In other words, in their case, to go back to Judaism and then continue in it is to go back permanently. The verse continues with willfully which, in the Greek text, is in the empathic position, literally making the text read, "willfully if we sin." Those who choose to sin this way are doing it voluntarily, not by force. This shows their action was not out of ignorance but by deliberate intention, one planned out, determined, done with forethought.

In the next portion of the verse: after that we have received the knowledge, the word for knowledge means "complete knowledge." Through their reading of this epistle, they receive a full knowledge of the warnings and consequences of their sin. If they go back, there remains no more a sacrifice for sins; that will be the first result of this apostasy. Since Jesus was rejected, there is no other sacrifice for sin but Him. This, again, is based on the Old Testament principle that there were no sacrifices for certain sins, including adultery, murder and blasphemy. For these kinds of sins, one could not offer a sacrifice. Instead, they were subject to the penalty of physical death. Once more, it would not be spiritual death, but physical death.

But what exactly is this sin of which he speaks? This can be deduced by comparing Hebrews 10:23-25 with verses 26-29. It involves a separation of the believer from other believers permanently. It involves returning to Judaism, the Temple, and all that it entails in order to escape persecution. The sin involves a denunciation of the three elements of verse 29: the work of the Son, the work of the Father, and the work of the Holy Spirit. For such there is no more a sacrifice for sins; but subject to judgment. The nature of the judgment is threefold: first, physical death (vv. 28-29); secondly, specifically death in the judgment of A.D. 70 (vv. 25, 27); and, thirdly, the loss of rewards (vv. 35-36).

The Second Result of Apostasy: Greater Judgment

In verse 27, the second result of apostasy is only greater judgment. So, there will be a certain fearful expectation of judgment. Because judgment is the only result of rejecting, there is no sacrifice for willful apostasy.

In verse 28, he points out that the Old Testament Law itself teaches the fact of physical judgment. Under the Law, there was physical death at the word of two or three witnesses. Notice again, the issue here is physical death, not spiritual death. It will also be physical death in A.D. 70, which will be that fearful and final judgment.

Verse 29 issues the warning: of how much sorer punishment, think ye, shall he be judged worthy. It is the application of all previous teachings. Because Yeshua is greater than Moses, if God punished under Moses, He will certainly punish under the Messiah.

Next, he gives the reason for the judgment: the character of God. Verse 30: [God] shall judge. Verse 31: It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. So, here again, the threat is physical judgment, a physical death in A.D. 70. And once more, the correlation was with the Mosaic stoning to death, which was also a physical death.

[FONT=Arial, sans-serif]THE FIFTH WARNING: THE DANGER OF INDIFFERENCE (HEBREWS 12:25-29)[/FONT]

The fifth warning is an admonition against indifference, in light of better blood in a better place. Earlier, the writer talked about the blood of the Messiah being in the New Jerusalem (vss 22-24). In light of that, there is an obligation.

In verse 25, they had rejected an earthly voice, but the One speaking now is from Heaven. Thus, the exhortation is: See that you refuse not him that speaks. [Do not block your ears to the voice of God, as the Israelites did at Mount Sinai.] For if they escaped not when they refused him that warned them on earth [Moses], much more shall [they] not escape who turn away from him that warns from heaven; [and Yeshua is now warning from Heaven.] Here again, he is not talking about salvation but temporal punishment. Those under the Law did not escape temporal punishment for disobeying the Law, so how can one turn away from the New Covenant, and hope to escape physical judgment as well?

In verse 26, he points out, the shaking of Mount Sinai in Exodus 19-20 was a symbol of the shaking of Heaven and earth that will be final.

In verse 27, someday God will introduce a brand new order which is unshakable. The principle, then, is that which is shakable is temporary; but that which is unshakable is eternal. The Mosaic Law was temporary, shakable; and the New Covenant will be unshakable, therefore, eternal. In this verse, he anticipates a coming destruction of Jerusalem which eventually, in the long term, will inaugurate the Messianic Kingdom. So, to go back to a shakable system¾ the Law, the Levitical System and all it entails¾ is to go to something destined to be destroyed.

In verse 28, he draws the conclusion. Wherefore, [because we are to receive] a kingdom that cannot be shaken [the Messianic Kingdom that will, in turn, usher in the Eternal Order], let us [appropriate] grace.

Rather than going back to Judaism, let us appropriate the grace we need to get us through because, in verse 29, the alternative is judgment; and, finally, again, the warning is discipline in this life.

[FONT=Arial, sans-serif]CONCLUSION[/FONT]

The five warnings of Hebrews were addressed to Jewish believers specifically, and the warning was that of physical judgment in this life and loss of rewards in the next. However, it must be emphasized that there is no threat to one’s eternal security.

I do not agree with your conclusion, nor with the book you pasted from.

The unpardonable sin is that which gets ones name blotted out of the book of Life, without remedy.

In the beginning, before YHWH made Adam, all individual persons who would ever come into their being as the seed of Adam were written in the Book of Life.

The fall was known before we came into our being, and the redemption was planned, pre-creation, in the Lamb who was to come, who was "slain from the foundation of the world".

He came to ransom every person in Adam, to bring them back to the Father, for the glory, whose names were all written in that book before they ever came to "be".

Those who get their names blotted out will suffer the second death, as reprobates, but they had the offer of the Life, in being lighted with the Light that lights every man that comes into the world, first, while they had their being, lived in their bodies, on earth, during their lives, which Light they rejected, or by blaspheming, got the names blotted out, without remedy.

There is no remedy for those who become reprobates after having known the Name that is above every name that is named by revelation of the Holy Spirit, and then denying that His name is the only name by which man may be saved.

To deny knowing Jesus is not the unforgivable sin, as Peter denied and was sorry and was forgiven and restored .

To blaspheme in ignorance is not the unforgivable sin, as Paul blasphemed, and did it in ignorance and was forgiven.

To murder is not the unforgivable sin, as David murdered Uriah indirectly, by having him sent to fight where he would be killed, and He was forgiven.

To backslide is not the unforgivable sin, as God is calling Israel always from her backslidings -and also the seven Churches to which Jesus wrote through John, in Asia, had those in some of them who had backslidden, but the call was to return.

Those who deny they know Him are not reprobates, but those who know by revelationo, that He is the Savior of them and the world, who then deny that He did save them or that He is the Savior, and say that there is another Way, are the reprobates.

Judas' name was blotted out of the Book of the Living, and that is without remedy.

Hebrews 6 speaks of one, Jew or Gentile, who turns back from saying the blood of Jesus Christ was the Atonement which made peace with God for them, and who seek another way after having known the Way, by the Spirit of Revelation.

There remains no more sacrifice for sin, at that point.

The book of Life has each of our names in it if we are born as Adam's seed, and in our own lives, we must seek the Light that lights every man that comes into the world, and if we do, He will give us more Light, and if we follow after, He leads us to Christ...while we live our own lives in our own bodies while we have our own being intact on this earth: or else, if we do not seek the Light that lights us -seeking us first- then He will not give us more Light, so that our condemnation will not be greater on that day, for He is a God of Mercy: but at some point of rejection, after many warnings of conviction of spirit -the Light of conscience- there is the danger of being blotted out of the Lamb's Book of Life.
But as long as there is breath, there is hope that one may repent and turn to the LORD, calling out to the Light that Lights every man that comes into the world.

Oh ... I'm shocked ... :p

Of course your asertion makes you your own saviour. Good luck.

Where is that statement of yours found, in the Bible?
-I can't find it.

It is evident that you have never researched the Scriptural teaching of the Book of Life/Book of the Living, and do not know whose names are written there; why they are written there; why some get their names blotted out; and whose names were never written there, and why they were not ever written there; and what that has to do with the Plan God made for this earth in the beginning and why the earth needed a Redeemer.

Where did Jesus say that blasphemy against the Holy Ghost could not be committed in this day? -Chapter and verse please.
This involves a study of comparing scripture with scripture...as God tells us to do in 2 Tim 2:15. Are you UP for it?

Much of what we LEARN from God is NOT found in a "single verse" as you have DEMANDED that I provide, but in a STUDY of Gods Word rightly divided.

  1. John 3:16 has nothing to do with your security in Christ. At the beginning, Christ was sent only to Israel. In Mat 15:24 Christ Himself said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” And Paul was inspired to write Rom 15:8, “Now I say that Jesus Christ has become a servant of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made to the fathers.” When Israel rejected Christ, God raised up Paul with a commission different from the 12 Apostles. Their commission required baptism, no willful sins and endurance for salvation.
  2. And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover” (Mk 16:15-18).
  3. In contrast, Paul’s commission did not include baptism. “For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect” (1 Co 1:17).
  4. There was a different dispensation, that is, a different method of salvation. It is the only one that has what we call eternal security, and you are interested in that. Peter and the eleven had the gospel of the circumcision. Paul had the gospel of the uncircumcision. The circumcision gospel was always associated with works for salvation. Paul’s gospel, according to Acts 16:31, was, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.” Paul was given a whole new program called the dispensation of the Mystery, or the dispensation of Grace. This is recorded in Ephesians 3:1-9.
  5. For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for you Gentiles; 2 if indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you, 3 how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, 4 by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ), 5 which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets: 6 that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel, 7 of which I became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effective working of His power. 8 To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9 and to make all see what is the fellowship [oi*konomiva, dispensation] of the mystery, which has been hidden from the ages in God who created all things through Jesus Christ.
  6. Paul had been given a different gospel by the resurrected Christ according to Galatians 2:7-9:
  7. But on the contrary, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcised had been committed to me, as the gospel of the circumcised was to Peter 8 (for He who worked effectively in Peter for the apostleship of the circumcised also worked effectively in me toward the Gentiles), 9 and when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that had been given to me, they gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.
  8. So, then, what gospel are you and I under? Even though I have shown you that Paul preached a gospel different from Peter’s, others say they’re the same. So, let’s continue checking this out. What did Peter preach as the gospel in his first sermon on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2:22-24,30-38
  9. Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know; 23 Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death; 24 whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it. 30 Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne, 31 he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption. 32 This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. 33 Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself: The LORD said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand, 35 Till I make Your enemies Your footstool. 36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.
  10. For some reason, Peter doesn’t even mention the redemption Christ purchased on the cross. His sermon emphasized that Christ was the Messiah of Israel. That was his important message.
  11. Later, when Peter went to Cornelius in Acts 10:34-43 he
  12. opened his mouth and said: In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. 35 But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him. 36 The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ; He is Lord of all; 37 that word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached: 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. 39 And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree. 40 Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly, 41 not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead. 42 And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead. 43 To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.
  13. When we look at the bold printed words above, we can see that works were essential for salvation: “Whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.” But they are not essential for your salvation.
  14. As far as the method of salvation is concerned, Peter’s gospel was quite different from Paul’s. In Acts 2:37,38, when they heard his sermon,
  15. they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38 Then Peter said to them, [Here’s the method] Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
  16. Again, this is not how you and I are saved. Later, when Peter wrote his first epistle to “the pilgrims of the Dispersion”, in 1 Pet 3:21, he wrote,
  17. There is also an antitype which now saves us; baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
  18. Water baptism was necessary for salvation.
  19. Peter also admonished them to make their election sure by doing good works in 2 Pet 1:10,11.
  20. Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
  21. Here’s where the unpardonable sin came in. It’s not just the sin in Matthew 12:31,32 “Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.” If they did not make their election sure, there was no hope, for Peter wrote in 2 Peter 2:20,
  22. For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.
  23. The ones who “escaped” in verse 20 are those who were deceived by the false teachers. The context points to the ones deceived by the false teachers. They first “escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. At the time they “escaped”, they would be in a state of salvation no matter what their identity. Their state of salvation in contrast to ours is this: Our salvation is sealed. Theirs is conditional, dependent on their endurance by faith.
  24. 2 Peter 2:20 is very similar to Hebrews 6:4-9: “If they fall away”. Here, we read, “If . . . they are again entangled.” In both places they lose their position in the process of salvation. In both places “the latter end is worse for them than the beginning” because “it is impossible . . . . to renew them again to repentance,” so they cannot resume the process of salvation. With the complete knowledge of the new covenant, they really knew better. So they were without excuse. One who would sin this way would commit the unpardonable sin of having the certain knowledge of the new covenant and despising it (1 Jo 2:20-27).
  25. Why would it “have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness”? Isn’t it always better for someone to know the way of righteousness? That is true in this dispensation because a person always has the opportunity to come to the Lord. But in that dispensation, it would be “better not to have known” in the first place than to know it, experience the blessings of salvation, and then lose out completely. What a disaster! To be in the process of salvation, then lose it. But worse than that, to be unable to ever get back into it again. Hebrews 10:27-29 tells us of the true misery of
  26. a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. 28 Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?”
  27. Why should there be such a “fearful expectation of judgment”? Why this “fiery indignation”? Because a special knowledge is given to partakers of the new covenant (Isa 54:13; Jer 24:7; 31:34). With this special knowledge, the new covenant requires the responsibility of faithfulness. Please do not misunderstand me. Such faithfulness would not come from their own power. As they concentrated on loving God, it would be “the power of God [released] through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” (1 Pe 1:5).
  28. In contrast, what gospel did Paul preach? In Acts 13:16-39, he started with the calling of Israel to King David. Then in verse 23 he said,
  29. From this man’s seed, according to the promise, God raised up for Israel a Savior; Jesus; 24 after John had first preached, before His coming, the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. 26 Men and brethren, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to you the word of this salvation has been sent. 38 Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins; 39 and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.
  30. Simply put, the Philippian jailer in Acts 16:30-32
  31. brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.
  32. In his epistles, Paul gave the same message of salvation. In Rom 3:21,22, he wrote,
  33. But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of God, through the faithfulness of Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference.
  34. And the gospel in a nut shell is found in Romans 10:9, “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
  35. As far as the method of salvation is concerned, in contrast to Peter’s “be even more diligent to make your call and election sure,” Paul wrote in 1 Co 3:15, “If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.” Then, in contrast to the required works for salvation which Peter, James, and John taught, Paul wrote in Ephesians 2:4-9,
  36. But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.
  37. And in Titus 3:4-7,
  38. But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
  39. God raised up the Apostle Paul and gave him a brand new message. Then, what should we proclaim? Should we teach the Mosaic law, the kingdom gospel that was for the Jews, or the message of grace that is for this dispensation?
  40. There is nothing more important to a person than his salvation and security? Nothing! Then, why is there so much confusion in the Christian world about this subject? The confusion comes from mixing together the method of salvation from the two different dispensations we’ve been studying. Instead of mixing them, we must learn to contrast the messages. It was different in the dispensations which were associated with the gospel of the kingdom – also called the gospel of the circumcision, that given to Peter.
  41. Let’s read Galatians 2:7, “But on the contrary, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision had been committed to me, as the gospel of the circumcision was to Peter”. Under the gospel of the circumcision, they had to believe and be baptized to be saved,
  42. Christ said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned (Mk 16:15,16).
  43. Peter commanded the same thing on the day of Pentecost. Acts 2:38, Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” He later wrote a similar statement in 1 Pe 3:21,22,
  44. There is also an antitype which now saves us – baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.
  45. Another doctrine associated with the gospel of the circumcision or the gospel of the kingdom, was endurance. They had to endure to be saved. One example of that is John 15:1-6,
  46. I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.
  47. Another example of their need to endure is found in Mat 24:13,14, “But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.”
  48. One of the most confusing was the requirement to do the works of the law. Notice what Mat 19:16-22 says.
  49. Now behold, one came and said to Him, Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life? 17 So He said to him, Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments. 18 He said to Him, Which ones? Jesus said, You shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, 19 Honor your father and your mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 20 The young man said to Him, All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack? 21 Jesus said to him, If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me. 22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
  50. These principles for salvation were repeated much later by James when he was writing to the Jewish dispersion in Jam 1:22-2:24. Please read the whole passage to get the context.
  51. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty [The Mosaic law.] and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. 8 If you really fulfill the royal law [The Mosaic law.] according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well; 9 but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, [The Mosaic law.] and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For He who said, [in the Mosaic law.]“Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder. ” Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law [The Mosaic law.]. 12 So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty [The Mosaic law.]. 13 For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment. 14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? [after he was circumcised and the covenant of circumcision was made with him by God.] 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which said [before he was given the covenant of circumcision], “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. ” And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.
  52. In contrast, in the dispensation of Grace which was given to Paul according to Ephesians 3:1-3,
  53. For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for you Gentiles – 2 if indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you, 3 how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery,
  54. we have to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved (Acts 16:31). That’s all! After you believe, the Holy spirit seals you, Mike. Eph 1:13 “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.” How long are you sealed? Until the day of redemption, the rapture, or until you die. Eph 4:30 “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”
  55. Now, when you mix these two gospels together, you cause a short circuit and the sparks of confusion fly. But, how do we divide these two gospels? What is the answer? We find over and over again in Acts 9:15, 13:46, 18:6, 22:17-21, 26:17,18, 28:28, Romans, Galatians 1:11-2:10, Ephesians 3:1-9, and Colossians, that Paul was the Apostle of the Gentiles – the uncircumcision. Not only did he preach a new gospel, the gospel of the grace of God (Acts 20:24), but he showed that God had a new spiritual blessing for this dispensation, which we call eternal security.

Chapter and verse please, of Jesus taking His plain and simple words back -if you can produce one, let's see it.
It seems you have not been taught the rudimentary procedure of bible STUDY. You instead take one or two verses OUT of context and run off the road trying to make a doctrine out of it.

Its obvious you dont take the time or effort to STUDY...or you would have SEEN the verses ....but here are some anyway....not that I expect you to understand them...

Here’s where the unpardonable sin came in. It’s not just the sin in Matthew 12:31,32 “Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.” If they did not make their election sure, there was no hope, for Peter wrote in 2 Peter 2:20,
For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.

So, you see...we who are not OF the covenant promises...(remember in Ephesians where it says that we gentiles were "strangers to the covenants" "aliens to the commonwealth of Israel", "without God" and "without Christ"?????????????????) We are STILL strangers to the covenants made with Israel...as we are NOT Israel, but the ONE NEW MAN made of TWAIN...the NEW CREATION spoken of by Paul which is none other than THE BODY OF CHRIST...something NEW...a church that WASNT in existance before.

Obviously TWO groups of people here....and continuing to IGNORE it isnt gonna make it go away!

NO one today can commit the unpardonable sin BECAUSE we arent under any covenant understanding with God...we are under GRACE.

You would KNOW this if you rightly divided the scriptures as 2 Tim 2:15 admonishes.

Hello eph3nine,
I do not agree with your ramblings of avoidance of the issue of the sin of blasphemy against the Holy Ghost.

Jesus said that there would be no forgiveness in this life or the next for those who blasphemed the Holy Spirit.

To blaspheme the Holy Spirit is to willfully , knowingly, reject the personal revelation given to any one of the Son of Man -pre-incarnate as the Hidden Son of Man who was to come- and now come in flesh.
To deny that He is come in flesh after knowing He is come in flesh as Only Savior, is to make it impossible to return and crucify Him twice. That is not a Jewish issue, but an issue involving anyone who has claimed the name of Jesus Christ by revelation of the Holy Spirit in them and then one in league with the wicked against his name.

It is not an issue of backsliding, or of being deceived, but of a personal, knowing, purposeful willfullness in blaspheming, as Judas did when he sold the LORD and was blotted out of the Book of the Living.

That Blasphemy is not limited to Jews anyplace in Scripture, and is especially why the lake of fire was made for the devil and his angels, who commit that sin, without remedy. They know, and they blaspheme.
That's what the whole end times war against the throne of YHWH is about, anyway, when the rebels against God try to take over the throne of the LORD in heaven above and on earth beneath, and to fill the face of the world with a name they make for themselves, rejecting His name He is making, which is "Israel".

That's what the mystery of iniquity is all about, which began in Genesis 11, and which was stopped at that time by YHWH'S reprogramming of the human brain's language "software" and which willfull rebellion is yet to commence as shown in Isaiah 14, which is not yet fulfilled; and is being kept back from commencing until the base for it is set up in the land of Shinar [Iraq], as shown in Zechariah 5, after the entire Church is taken out and off earth for the "darkness" of the night of the Last "day" of earth to begin before the New Beginning of it after the thousand year reign.

Babylon as Nimrod & Co tried a willfull rebellion against God, and tried to ascend to the throne of YHWH in heaven and on earth, on the Mount Zion, which is spiritual Zion, which the earthly is a type of, and which will be fully be restored, below, to type and shadow the heavenly one, for the millennial reign.

The tyrants, in league with the wicked one, will try once again, as in Genesis 11, to make a name for themselves and take over the throne of YHWH above and in Jerusalem, and fill the face of the world with cities with their own "made name". Genesis 11 and Isaiah 14 are about that rebellion and in the original language one can see that plainly.
Babel means, in the language of Nimrod & Co "Gate of God".

The parable of the wicked husbandmen in Matthew 21 shows that the act was willfull, when the rulers decided to kill the son and take the kingdom for themselves. Judas went in league with them, willfully, and their names were blotted out of the Book of the Living.

There is no remedy for the willful, knowing, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

Paul blasphemed but in ignorance, he said.

Judas blasphemed in willfulness and had no remedy to be restored, as the Lamb was slain from the foundation of the world as the One Way, and Judas blasphemed the One Way.

Paul warned against it, using Esau as an example who for one morsal of meat sold the birthright and found no 'place for repentence"; there is no remedy for willfull blasphemy.

'scuse me, but I dont believe I rambled with the clear presentation of scripture to support WHY the unpardonable sin cannot be committed today. We go to SCRIPTURE to explain SCRIPTURE, not to the wild imaginings of good folks such as yourself who seem to make it up as they go along.
The SCRIPTURE makes it very clear just what the "unpardonable sin" had to do with and WHOM. Its NOT us!

Take it or leave it...but we will all be held accountable for what we BELIEVE...either the testimony of God in His Word, or the testimony of man that was taught us thru the "traditions of men".

Going to Scripture to explain Scripture, I find that Jesus particularly told those who accused Him of casting out demons by the power of the prince of demons that they blasphemed the Holy Ghost, and those who do that - blaspheme the Holy Ghost- would have no forgiveness -ever.

By the same measure, those who accuse we who speak in tongues by the power of the Holy Spirit, whom we have received from Jesus Christ, of speaking in tongues by the power of Satan, are committing the same kind of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.

To do so in ignorance is forgivable, to do so in willfull understanding is blasphemy against the Spirit, and is that blasphemy which Jesus spoke of, explained in detail, in the Scripture.

A House Divided Cannot Stand
(Mark 3:22-27; Luke 11:14-23)
22 Then one was brought to Him who was demon-possessed, blind and mute; and He healed him, so that the *blind and mute man both spoke and saw.
23 And all the multitudes were amazed and said, "Could this be the Son of David?"
24 Now when the Pharisees heard it they said, "This fellow does not cast out demons except by *Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons."
25 But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.
26 If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?
27 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. 28 But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.
29 Or how can one enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house.
30 He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.
The Unpardonable Sin
(Mark 3:28-30)
31 "Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy of* the Spirit will not be forgiven men.

32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.

To acccuse those born again Believers in Jesus Christ of being in the power of satan who have been baptized in the Spirit of God and endued with power from on high, who speak in tongues by the power of the Spirit of God and have any of the gifts of the Spirit 'outlined by Paul', which the Holy Spirit gives to individuals in the Church for edification and help, since Pentecost -and continuing until Jesus takes His Church to Himself at the time of the harvest of sons [the Rapture-Laqach-harpazo], is to commit blasphemy of the Spirit of God.

I have read on this forum that those of you who believe the MAD doctrines believe we who give testimony to being born again and baptized in the Spirit of God and who say we do pray in tongues to God are speaking by the power of Satan.

Seems that those of you who say we are speaking by Satan and deceived by Satan are committing blasphemy of the Spirit, as Jesus outlined that blasphemy above, but I pray you are doing so in ignorance, and that you repent and are forgiven.

And please don't accuse me of such things as the Benny Hinn crowd, which Tychicum already brought up as if that is what is in Scripture, for in no way does that compare to the Scripture, and is mockery of the Spirit of God's gifts just as 'marraige' of same sex persons is a mockery of that which God has ordained in Holy Matrimony.

Mt , Mark, Luke and John were ALL written while Jesus was still ministering on EARTH. Those instructions are NOT what we who are His body follow today.

Jesus Christ the LORD had MORE to say when He rose from the DEAD, and He said it DIRECTLY TO AND ABOUT THE CHURCH< which is His BODY. That body didnt begin until the salvation of its first member...Paul in Acts 9. There WAS no body of Christ before that!

Why? Because God had a SECRET. He kept it HID from generations PAST, and revealed it in due time.

Many are MISSING the most relevant and important piece of the puzzle and trying to put us back under the teachings of Jesus EARTHLY Ministry...which HE himself said was to the Lost sheep of the House of Israel.

Since many reject Gods most recent revelation to mankind and continue to want to put us all under the law of Moses and Jesus earthly teachings, MY bible says to IDENTIFY such as "an enemy of the Cross".

I gave a good response above, to answer the question.
