  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The "un-derailable" thread!

Isn't that supposed to be the premise for the upcoming Capt. America movie? The Avengers need to be reigned in because they cause too much damage when saving the world from total destruction? And what do you think happened to the Hulk? I think Agent Romanov and Capt America would make a better couple or maybe her and Bucky.

I think you're missing something not watching the Edward Norton "The Incredible Hulk" flick. I thoroughly enjoyed it. "Hulk" by Ang Lee sucked royally. Waste of time. Don't lump both together. The Norton movie was a ton of fun and nicely-done. It's a great precursor to the Avengers and respectful to the history of the Hulk story. It's touching and also hilarious when it should be. Give it a shot!

I expected Batman vs Superman to be STOOOOOOPID, but I found it to be a very enjoyable way to waste a few hours. I was shocked at how good of a job Ben Affleck did as Batman. It was just waaaayyyyy to much story stuffed into one movie. They should have had more stand alone movies first. Look how many stand alones were out when the first Avengers came out. There were at least two Iron Man movies, Captain America, Thor, and I'm choosing to ignore those awful Hulk movies. All this movie really had in terms of set up was Man of Steel. You can't really count the recent Dark Knight Batman movies because the last time we saw Batman he had faked his own death, so that he could have a "normal" life with Catwoman, and Robin was rising as the new Dark Knight. So, how did we get from that to this? They should have had at least one new stand alone Batman to help set this up.

Plus, why was Batman upset with Superman? Because of a tragedy at Wayne Towers that was really caused by Zod. How was that Superman's fault?

Didn't Jesus say something about looking at a woman for lust in your heart? Lol!

It might have been one of the Avengers movies I complained about how many times they focused the camera on her butt. I said that is not neccessary! My son and little brother assured me that it is neccessary and pivotal to the story. My husband wisely said nothing.

So, on a more spiritual subject Daniel Sysoev says in the book I'm reading that if an Orthodox Christian does not read the scripture every single day that it is a sin. Thoughts?

I can see it in the sense that to sin is to miss the mark (Christ) and in the Scriptures we learn of Him. with access to the daily readings and the fact that the services are 97% verbatim from the Scripture, I would say he is right.

he probably was not referring to folks who couldn't read them, but rather wouldn't read them.

I'm not too crazy about the computer generated hulks.
And regardless of the critics I liked BvS. Snyder should have just hinted that the Flash runs so fast that he travels not only through time but alternative earths. The non DC comic fan and casual movie goer have no idea about this and were confused over the dream sequence and flash cameo. Most who saw probably still haven't realized it was the flash.

I don't like that the Hulks are so enormous like some kind of cave troll from a LOTR film, but it is what it is I guess. Hulk has practically ZERO weaknesses in the new Marvel films, making him invincible. I don't like that either. You can shoot Hulk with ten 50 caliber machine guns and twenty missiles, dropping boulders on him and firing nukes and he just brushes it off.

I think that, with the exception of Superman, is why I'm more of a DC fan. It's more crime-related, more human stories, smaller scale. With Marvel it's always someone trying to conquer the universe. I love Marvel, don't get me wrong, but sometimes the global conquest stuff gets tiring. Even the Winter Soldier flick "went there" with that. I suppose that's why growing up and even now I'm a big Daredevil fan. It's like Batman in Gotham. One town, crime, someone trying to make a difference in a blurred line.

I'm not too crazy about the computer generated hulks.

Acually the invincibility aspect is also why I prefer DC. From Wolverine to the Hulk, they have healing power where a hole in their heads will heal in three seconds. The X-Men, while I liked some of the movies and comic book storylines I simply can't relate. One has the power to erase the entire universe by thinking it in her mind, another has the power to shapeshift, transforming himself into a well endowed adonis of epic beauty who can attract any female...Yet we are to think that the homosapiens are a threat to them and their academy is a "safe space" for them, Lol. Silver Surfer I believe is also invincible who can swallow up galaxies, etc.

Not Silver Surfer. I think you're thinking of Galactus?

But I hear ya, man. Most Marvel characters are pretty much invincible. Captain America, Hulk, Thor, most X-Men, etc. Daredevil and some of the humans like Black Widow or Hawkeye, etc. are vulnerable, but most are out of this world. Fantastic Four are the same way!

I think I relate to the Dark Knight better than any.

Even Superman seems more human than some Marvel characters LOL

People always argue with me when I say I think Batman could beat Iron Man. They say, "IM's tech is WAY better than Bats'!" I tell 'em, "yeah, maybe, but Bruce is always ten or eleven steps ahead of his opponents AND he has decent tech. I'm voting Bruce."

Personally as a whole I prefer Marvel, but nothing beats Batman. I love how there can be multiple panels of him figuring stuff out.

Marvel is the premeire brand for sure. I think 55% of comic sales are Marvel and DC constitutes 35-40%.

But Marvel needs to ease off the invincible powers for half of your characters. Let's see, Deadpool was beheaded but his head miraculously grafted back onto its body. If he is incinerated in a nuke blast, Thanos will reconstitute his atomic structure and put him back together, because the almighty Thanos has decreed that Deadpool is to be cursed by living forever.

IRon Man's suit is an advanced weapons platform. Once again an invincible one where a nuke blast probably can't penetrate. Batman is more of a ninja-detective. Although Bats suit does incorporate alien technology he operates more by stealth and being two steps ahead of everyone. Iron Man has the military hardware and military platform at his fingertips, whereas Batman relies on the covert aspects such as intelligience and information gathering of an opponent.

We need a Christ-inspired superhero. Then he could beat ALL the others, even the invincible ones. Game over.

:p

Yes, too bad the comics simply paganise the Christ-inspired superheroes. You will see it in the forthcoming wonder woman movie, alot of Greek mythology, daughter of Zeus. Originally her origin story was that she was made from clay and then brought to life.

Alot of christian inspired things in BvS but made to look differently- more pagan (spoiler alert). The theme of the movie was "God's among us".similar to the name Emanuelle. Luther at one point says, "demons don't ascend from under the earth they come down from the sky'.. (we say the principalities of the air)

Heck at superman's funeral/ vigil they were mostly holding the candles we use in church for the Ressurection and the Lamentations service. Sure enough the final scene Lois tosses dirt into his grave and it begins to rise..The end. Superman was a Jesus figure in the movie. His opponents in the movie called him a 'false God'. He died but will ressurect in the sequel etc.

I'm with Bruce on this as well...so much better than Iron Man, imho!

oh yeah, Bats would watch and study Iron Man long before the battle ever happened.
