Wow! LGW, I almost agreed fully with your post until I read: "It is the shadow laws in the book of the covenant that are fulfilled in the new."Not really Dave. Your only telling half the story...
EXODUS 24:7 [7], And he took the BOOK OF THE COVENANT, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD has said will we do, and be obedient.
DEUTERONOMY 29:21 And the LORD shall separate him to evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses OF THE COVENANT THAT ARE WRITTEN IN THIS BOOK of the law
2 KINGS 23:2 And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and he READ IN THEIR EARS ALL THE WORDS OF THE BOOK OF THE COVENANT which was found in the house of the LORD.
2 KINGS 23:21 And the king commanded all the people, saying, Keep the passover to the LORD your God, as it is written in the BOOK OF THIS COVENANT.
2 CHRONICLES 34:30
And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the BOOK OF THE COVENANT that was found in the house of the LORD.
2 CHRONICLES 34:31 And the king stood in his place, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the COVENANT WHICH ARE WRITTEN IN THIS BOOK.
It is both the 10 commandments written on stone with the finger of God and the book of the covenant written by Moses that made up the old covenant. Together they were both placed separately into the ark of the covenant. It is the shadow laws in the book of the covenant that are fulfilled in the new.
God's 10 commandment have the same role they always have in the new covenant and that is to give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7 and to lead us to Christ that we might be forgiven through faith *GALATIANS 3:22-25 so we might be free to walk in God's Spirit *GALATIANS 5:16.
Hope this helps.
Ten Commandments were the Old Covenant
“And He (God) wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.” Exodus 34:28
“And He declared unto you His covenant, which He commanded you to perform, even the Ten Commandments.” Deuteronomy 4:13:
“When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant.” Deuteronomy 9:9:
“So I turned and came down from the mount . . . and the two tables of the covenant were in my two hands.” Deuteronomy 9:15:
“There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone which Moses put there at Horeb, when Jehovah made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt,” I Kings 8:9
“And there have I set a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of Jehovah, which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.” I Kings 8:21
The second of these two texts is repeated in II Chronicles 6:11.
Consider “The ark of the covenant” that held the Ten Commandments (Numbers 10:33; Jeremiah 3:16, and other places)
Also; “It contained the golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered entirely with gold. In this ark were the golden urn containing the manna, Aaron’s rod that budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant.” (Hebrews 9:4) (NET)
1 Kings 8:
6 The kohanim brought the ark of the covenant of Adonai to its place, into the inner Sanctuary of the House, to the Holy of Holies, under the wings of the cheruvim.
7 For the cheruvim spread out their wings over the place of the ark, and the cheruvim covered the ark and its poles from above.
8 But the poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from the Holy Place before the inner Sanctuary, but they could not be seen outside; there they are to this day.
9 Nothing was in the ark except the two tables of stone that Moses put there at Horeb, when Adonai cut a covenant with the children of Israel when they came out of the land of Egypt.
She explains it perfectly, hope it helps you.Wow! LGW, I almost agreed fully with your post until I read: "It is the shadow laws in the book of the covenant that are fulfilled in the new."
That is completely not Biblical. Jesus said He came to fulfill the Law. He didn't say "shadow laws". Paul wrote that the Law was until Christ. He didn't mention shadow. Gal 3. In Eph 2:15 Paul wrote that Jesus by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, Surely Paul would not have us to believe that Jesus set aside the "shadow laws" like you assume when he implicitly said the Law with its commands and regulations. And in 2Cor 3 where Paul wrote that the tables of stone were done away or in some versions transient

The topic of the OP, as established by post #1, is that the tablets containing the Ten CommandmentsShe explains it perfectly, hope it helps you.
God's laws: Are they still valid? | ArkFiles.net
The Moral Laws
First, it was the main moral law: the ten commandments.
It was followed by a supplement of other laws, many that just explained the main law.
For instance, the moral law said that you should not commit adultery. The other laws explain what God perceives as fornication. As people of different generations and cultures will have different perceptions, God had to specify.
Sex with someone who isn’t your spouse while married, sex with someone else’s husband or wife, sex with family members, animals, with the same gender, and so on.
These laws were necessary for people to not make up the meaning of the commandment themselves, but to let God decide His own meaning with His own law.
The commandments thou shalt have no other gods than Him, and not to make idols are also specified in the other laws against idolatry. Here God specified that contacting the dead, to make self-made gods, to worship nature elements etc . God also says the commandment against making images included making images of God Himself, not just of other gods, but of Him. They were not to depict Him. Sorcery, astrology and even a rebellious spirit are considered idol worship after God’s explanation. So all these laws just explained the principles of the moral law.
And that was their purpose, if you did away with them you would remove the knowledge of how to keep the ten commandments correctly.
Then you had a set of health laws. They were to sanctify the people, keep their moral high, and keep them strong and healthy.
The Bible was specific to what laws were punishable with death. It was the moral laws and many of the laws explaining it. Why is this important? Because this is the laws God uses to judge mankind and why we need Jesus to atone our sins for us. If there isn’t a law broken, there is no need for punishment or atonement. If there is no law broken there was no need for Jesus.
Blood was carried into the holiest place over the Ark that contained the law that had been broken, and the other laws also there on the side of the Ark.
The topic of the OP, as established by post #1, is that the tablets containing the Ten Commandments
were also referred to as "the tablets of the testimony".
Please read post #1 to remain on topic. Thanks.
The Ark contained the two tablets upon which were written The Ten Commandments.
They are also referred to as the tablets of the testimony.
Exodus 31:18. And when He had made an end of speaking with him on
Mount Sinai, He gave Moses two tablets of the Testimony, tablets
of stone, written with the finger of God.
No worries. The fact is that unlike every other commandment, statute, etc...only theSorry about that brother.
Deuteronomy 31:Hi LGW, might I remind you that the book of the law also contained the ten commandments. So, that being established the book of the law in its entirety was the shadow laws. That justifies why Jesus said He came to fulfill the law. He didn't have to tell us they were shadow laws because as you explained they were already shadow laws. The Sinai covenant was already annihilated by the Israelites and mankind was awaiting the ratification of the new covenant.
Moses wrote the instructions, commandments, etc... as given to him.So what is your point MM? Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write down all these instructions, for they represent the terms of the covenant I am making with you and with Israel.” Ex34:27

The point here Bob is that the Mosaic book of the law written by Moses under God's instruction and God's 10 commandments written with the finger of God on tables of stone collectively make up the old covenant. It does not say anywhere in the bible that God's 10 Commandment are abolished and the new covenant scriptures show they have the same role they always have and that is to give us the knowledge of GOOD and EVIL; SIN AND RIGHTEOUSNESS *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4; PSALMS 119:172 and according to the scriptures if we break anyone of them we stand guilty before God of sin *JAMES 2:10-11. It is the "SHADOW LAWS" for remission of sin that are fulfilled in the new which point to JESUS and God's plan of salvation for all mankind. So what is your point MM? Keep the whole law LGW. The whole law was 613 commands given to Israel. If you believe the ten commandments are all of the commands given to Israel by God then you need to rethink. Israel sure didn't believe some of them were shadow laws and Jesus didn't either. He said He came to fulfill all of the law. The ten commandments were just a few of laws that man could obey or refuse to obey. Why you hold them in such esteem is well beyond me. Whether on stone or in a book they were all God's laws to only the Israelites. No matter how many verses you try to us to make what you believe to be true you cannot deny what I have written. The point here Bob is that the Mosaic book of the law written by Moses under God's instruction and God's 10 commandments written with the finger of God on tables of stone collectively make up the old covenant.
