Not really Dave. Your only telling half the story...

EXODUS 24:7 [7], And he took the BOOK OF THE COVENANT, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD has said will we do, and be obedient.

DEUTERONOMY 29:21 And the LORD shall separate him to evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses OF THE COVENANT THAT ARE WRITTEN IN THIS BOOK of the law

2 KINGS 23:2 And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and he READ IN THEIR EARS ALL THE WORDS OF THE BOOK OF THE COVENANT which was found in the house of the LORD.

2 KINGS 23:21 And the king commanded all the people, saying, Keep the passover to the LORD your God, as it is written in the BOOK OF THIS COVENANT.

2 CHRONICLES 34:30
And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the BOOK OF THE COVENANT that was found in the house of the LORD.

2 CHRONICLES 34:31 And the king stood in his place, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the COVENANT WHICH ARE WRITTEN IN THIS BOOK.

It is both the 10 commandments written on stone with the finger of God and the book of the covenant written by Moses that made up the old covenant. Together they were both placed separately into the ark of the covenant.
It is the shadow laws in the book of the covenant that are fulfilled in the new.

God's 10 commandment have the same role they always have in the new covenant and that is to give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7 and to lead us to Christ that we might be forgiven through faith *GALATIANS 3:22-25 so we might be free to walk in God's Spirit *GALATIANS 5:16.

Hope this helps.
Wow! LGW, I almost agreed fully with your post until I read: "It is the shadow laws in the book of the covenant that are fulfilled in the new."

That is completely not Biblical. Jesus said He came to fulfill the Law. He didn't say "shadow laws". Paul wrote that the Law was until Christ. He didn't mention shadow. Gal 3. In Eph 2:15 Paul wrote that Jesus by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, Surely Paul would not have us to believe that Jesus set aside the "shadow laws" like you assume when he implicitly said the Law with its commands and regulations. And in 2Cor 3 where Paul wrote that the tables of stone were done away or in some versions transient

Ten Commandments were the Old Covenant

“And He (God) wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.” Exodus 34:28

“And He declared unto you His covenant, which He commanded you to perform, even the Ten Commandments.” Deuteronomy 4:13:

“When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant.” Deuteronomy 9:9:

“So I turned and came down from the mount . . . and the two tables of the covenant were in my two hands.” Deuteronomy 9:15:

“There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone which Moses put there at Horeb, when Jehovah made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt,” I Kings 8:9

“And there have I set a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of Jehovah, which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.” I Kings 8:21

The second of these two texts is repeated in II Chronicles 6:11.

Consider “The ark of the covenant” that held the Ten Commandments (Numbers 10:33; Jeremiah 3:16, and other places)

Also; “It contained the golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered entirely with gold. In this ark were the golden urn containing the manna, Aaron’s rod that budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant.” (Hebrews 9:4) (NET)

Hmmm nope, they were a part of the old covenant. Your only telling half the story...

Here is the other half your leaving out...

EXODUS 24:7 [7], And he took the BOOK OF THE COVENANT, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD has said will we do, and be obedient.

2 KINGS 23:21 And the king commanded all the people, saying, Keep the passover to the LORD your God, as it is written in the BOOK OF THIS COVENANT.

1 Kings 8:
6 The kohanim brought the ark of the covenant of Adonai to its place, into the inner Sanctuary of the House, to the Holy of Holies, under the wings of the cheruvim.
7 For the cheruvim spread out their wings over the place of the ark, and the cheruvim covered the ark and its poles from above.
8 But the poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from the Holy Place before the inner Sanctuary, but they could not be seen outside; there they are to this day.
9 Nothing was in the ark except the two tables of stone that Moses put there at Horeb, when Adonai cut a covenant with the children of Israel when they came out of the land of Egypt.

The BOOK of the covenant was placed in the side (not inside) of the Ark of the covenant and always taken out to read before the people...

DEUTERONOMY 31:26 TAKE THIS BOOK OF THE LAW, AND PUT IT IN THE SIDE OF THE ARK OF THE COVENANT of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against you.of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against you.

She explains it perfectly, hope it helps you.

God's laws: Are they still valid? | ArkFiles.net

The Moral Laws
First, it was the main moral law: the ten commandments.

It was followed by a supplement of other laws, many that just explained the main law.

For instance, the moral law said that you should not commit adultery. The other laws explain what God perceives as fornication. As people of different generations and cultures will have different perceptions, God had to specify.

Sex with someone who isn’t your spouse while married, sex with someone else’s husband or wife, sex with family members, animals, with the same gender, and so on.
These laws were necessary for people to not make up the meaning of the commandment themselves, but to let God decide His own meaning with His own law.

The commandments thou shalt have no other gods than Him, and not to make idols are also specified in the other laws against idolatry. Here God specified that contacting the dead, to make self-made gods, to worship nature elements etc . God also says the commandment against making images included making images of God Himself, not just of other gods, but of Him. They were not to depict Him. Sorcery, astrology and even a rebellious spirit are considered idol worship after God’s explanation. So all these laws just explained the principles of the moral law.

And that was their purpose, if you did away with them you would remove the knowledge of how to keep the ten commandments correctly.

Then you had a set of health laws. They were to sanctify the people, keep their moral high, and keep them strong and healthy.

The Bible was specific to what laws were punishable with death. It was the moral laws and many of the laws explaining it. Why is this important? Because this is the laws God uses to judge mankind and why we need Jesus to atone our sins for us. If there isn’t a law broken, there is no need for punishment or atonement. If there is no law broken there was no need for Jesus.

Blood was carried into the holiest place over the Ark that contained the law that had been broken, and the other laws also there on the side of the Ark.

Sure it is biblical Bob. The BOOK OF THE COVENANT contains the "SHADOW LAWS" that are fulfilled in the new covenant.

Here you go, here is the biblical your missing here...

HEBREWS 10:1-19
[1] For THE LAW HAVING A SHADOW OF GOOD THINGS TO COME, and not the very image of the things, can never WITH THOSE SACRIFICES WHICH THEY OFFERED YEAR BY YEAR continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
[2] For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
[3] But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year [Day of Atonement] *Leviticus 23:27-32.
[4] For IT IS NOT POSSIBLE THAT THE BLOOD OF BULLS AND OF GOATS SHOULD TAKE AWAY SINS.
[5], Therefore when he comes into the world, he says, SACRIFICES AND OFFERINGS YOU DESIRED NOT, BUT A BODY YOU HAVE PREPARED FOR ME:
[6], In BURNT OFFERINGS AND SACRIFICES FOR SIN you have had no pleasure.

Ok drum role please... wait for it... wait for it...

[7], Then said I, Lo, I COME IN THE VOLUME OF THE BOOK IT IS WRITEN OF ME, to do your will, O God.

NOTE: What are the Shadow laws of the OLD COVENANT? IT is those from the MOSAIC BOOK OF THE COVENANT v7 is a reference to...

EXODUS 24:7 [7], And he took the BOOK OF THE COVENANT, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD has said will we do, and be obedient.

DEUTERONOMY 29:21 [21], And the LORD shall separate him to evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the COVENANT THAT ARE WRITTEN IN THIS BOOK OF THE LAW.

2 KINGS 23:2 [2], And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and HE READ IN THEIR EARS ALL THE WORDS OF THE BOOK OF THE COVENANT which was found in the house of the LORD.

2 KINGS 23:3 [3], And the king stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and all their soul, TO PERFORM THE WORDS OF THIS COVENANT THAT WERE WRITTEN IN THIS BOOK. And all the people stood to the covenant.

2 KINGS 23:21 [21], And the king commanded all the people, saying, KEEP THE PASSOVER OF THE LORD your God, AS IT IS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THIS COVENANT.

...............

Continuing..

[8], Above when he said, SACRIFICES AND OFFERINGS AND BURNT OFFERINGS AND OFFERINGS FOR SIN YOU DESIRED NOT, neither had pleasure in them; WHICH ARE OFFERED BY THE LAW;

NOTE: We are talking about the BOOK of the LAW *DEUTERONOMY 31:26 not God's 10 COMMANDMENTS in this chapter as again outlined in HEBREWS 10:7-8 above

[9], Then said he, LO I COME TO DO YOUR WILL O GOD. HE TAKES AWAY THE FIRST, THAT HE MIGHT ESTABLISH THE SECOND

NOTE: NEW COVENANT NO MORE ANIMAL SACRIFICES from the MOSAIC BOOK OF THE LAW

[10], By the which will we are sanctified through THE OFFERING OF THE BODY OF JESUS ONCE AND FOR ALL.
[11], And every priest stands daily ministering and offering frequently the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
[12], BUT THIS MAN, AFTER HE HAD OFFERED ONE SACRIFICE FOR SINS FOREVER, sat down on the right hand of God;
[13], From then on waiting till his enemies be made his footstool.
[14], For by one offering he has perfected forever them that are sanctified.
[15], The Holy Spirit also is a witness to us: for after this he had said before,
[16], THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THEM AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD, I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR HEARTS AND MINDS WILL I WRITE THEM;

[17], And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
[18], Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
[19], Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

...............

CONCLUSION: The NEW COVENANT is NO MORE SHADOW LAWS and animal sacrifices from the MOSAIC BOOK OF THE COVENANT (Exodus 24:7) God's LAW is to be written in a NEW HEART TO LOVE in the new covenant * HEBREWS 10:16; ROMANS 13:8-10.

Yeps seems pretty biblical to me Bob, don't you think? (please also see HEBREWS 7; HEBREWS 8 and HEBREWS 9).

.........

As posted sometime back and proven through the scriptures already 2 CORINTHIANS 3 is talking about the old and new covenants and their "ministrations" it says nothing about God's 10 commandments being abolished. That would contradict the whole bible (scripture exegesis here linked) and have Paul contradicting himself when he says we do not abolish the law through faith we establish the law *ROMANS 3:31.

Hope this helps.

The topic of the OP, as established by post #1, is that the tablets containing the Ten Commandments
were also referred to as "the tablets of the testimony".
Please read post #1 to remain on topic. Thanks.
The Ark contained the two tablets upon which were written The Ten Commandments.
They are also referred to as the tablets of the testimony.
Exodus 31:18.
And when He had made an end of speaking with him on
Mount Sinai, He gave Moses two tablets of the Testimony, tablets
of stone, written with the finger of God.

Sorry about that brother.
No worries. The fact is that unlike every other commandment, statute, etc...only the
Ten Words/utterances/commandments recorded on the tablets were heard spoken by the entire
congregation. Every other instruction is given through the intermediation of Moses. This is why the
tablets are referred to as tablets of the "testimony", and the ark of the covenant is also referred to as
the ark of the testimony. It was at Sinai when these commandments were spoken "they heard the Voice
Of God from the fire, and lived". Amen.

Hi LGW, might I remind you that the book of the law also contained the ten commandments. So, that being established the book of the law in its entirety was the shadow laws. That justifies why Jesus said He came to fulfill the law. He didn't have to tell us they were shadow laws because as you explained they were already shadow laws. The Sinai covenant was already annihilated by the Israelites and mankind was awaiting the ratification of the new covenant.

Deuteronomy 31:
24 So it was, when Moses had completed writing the words of this law in a book, when they were finished,
25 that Moses commanded the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord, saying:
26 Take this Book of the Law, and put it beside the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God,
that it may be there as a witness against you.

Exodus 34:
27
Then Adonai said to Moses, Write these words, for based on these words I have cut a
covenant with you and with Israel.
28
So he stayed there with Adonai for 40 days and 40 nights, and he did not eat bread or drink water. He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant: these Ten Words.(Commandments)

1 Kings 8:
6
The kohanim brought the ark of the covenant of Adonai to its place, into the inner Sanctuary of the House, to the Holy of Holies, under the wings of the cheruvim.
9 Nothing was in the ark except the two tables of stone that Moses put there at Horeb, when Adonai cut a covenant with the children of Israel when they came out of the land of Egypt.

So what is your point MM? Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write down all these instructions, for they represent the terms of the covenant I am making with you and with Israel.” Ex34:27
Moses wrote the instructions, commandments, etc... as given to him.
The Ten Commandments were written by YHWH.
Exodus 31:18. And when He had made an end of speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Moses two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God.
Exodus 32:

15. And Moses turned and went down from the mountain, and the two tablets of the Testimony
were in his hand. The tablets were written on both sides; on the one side and on the other written.
16 Now the tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God engraved
on the tablets.

As per the OP post #1, it was only these words that were spoken from the fire on the mount,
and was heard by all the people. Referencing the tablets of the Testimony. The Ark
of the Covenant is also called the Ark of the Testimony. Re-stated to be on topic.

So what was the Testimony associated with the giving of the Ten Words
when God cut a covenant with Israel?

Deuteronomy 4:33. Has a people ever heard the voice of God speaking from the
midst of the fire, as you have heard—and lived?
Deuteronomy 5:21. Then you said, ‘Adonai our God has just shown us His glory and
His greatness, and we have heard His voice from the midst of the fire. This day we
have seen that God speaks with man, and yet he keeps on living.
Numbers 7:89.
When Moses entered the Tent of Meeting to speak with Adonai,
he heard the voice speaking to him
from above the atonement cover atop
the Ark of Testimony between the cheruvim. So he spoke with Him.

Jeremiah 7:
22 For on the day that I brought your fathers out of the land of Egypt I did not
speak to them nor did I command them concerning burnt offerings
and sacrifices,

23 but I explicitly commanded them: Obey My voice and I will be your God
to you and you will be My people.
Walk in all the ways that I command you that it
may go well with you.
24 But they did not listen or pay attention. Instead they followed their own counsel,
in the stubbornness of their evil heart. They have gone backward and not forward.

No need Bob, everything was spelled out very clearly I think in post # 26 linked, did you read it? I am still waiting for your response. Perhaps you missed it. HEBREWS 7; HEBREWS 8; HEBREWS 9 and especially HEBREWS 10:1-19 specifically state what those "SHADOW LAWS" included. They are the MOSAIC laws for remission of sin that are replaced in the new covenant because they pointed to JESUS and God's plan of salvation for mankind in the Sanctuary which is in heaven and JESUS as our sin offering and great high priest. The earthly shadows in the old covenant being fulfilled in the new covenant. HEBREWS 10:1-19 leads into the new covenant promise here BOB...

HEBREWS 10:16-23
[16], This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, said the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
[17], And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
[18], Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
[19], Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
[20], By a new and living way, which he has consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
[21], And having an high priest over the house of God;
[22], Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
[23], Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for he is faithful that promised.

Please see the scriptures already provided in the earlier post in post # 26 linked.

There is no mention of anyone of God's 10 commandments being abolished anywhere in Hebrews or the rest of the new testament scriptures.

Hope this helps

The point here Bob is that the Mosaic book of the law written by Moses under God's instruction and God's 10 commandments written with the finger of God on tables of stone collectively make up the old covenant. It does not say anywhere in the bible that God's 10 Commandment are abolished and the new covenant scriptures show they have the same role they always have and that is to give us the knowledge of GOOD and EVIL; SIN AND RIGHTEOUSNESS *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4; PSALMS 119:172 and according to the scriptures if we break anyone of them we stand guilty before God of sin *JAMES 2:10-11. It is the "SHADOW LAWS" for remission of sin that are fulfilled in the new which point to JESUS and God's plan of salvation for all mankind.

Keep the whole law LGW. The whole law was 613 commands given to Israel. If you believe the ten commandments are all of the commands given to Israel by God then you need to rethink. Israel sure didn't believe some of them were shadow laws and Jesus didn't either. He said He came to fulfill all of the law. The ten commandments were just a few of laws that man could obey or refuse to obey. Why you hold them in such esteem is well beyond me. Whether on stone or in a book they were all God's laws to only the Israelites. No matter how many verses you try to us to make what you believe to be true you cannot deny what I have written.

We are in the new covenant now Bob not the old covenant. We do not keep the whole law of the old covenant anymore now Bob. (Please see the scriptures already provided in post # 26 above showing why). The ceremonial "SHADOW LAWS" laws of Moses for remission of sins are fulfilled in Christ. No more sin offerings, Levitical Priesthood or earthly Sanctuary laws of the old covenant. The ministration condemnation and death have now been fulfilled in the Spirit of life and love in Christ. Your mixing up God's law with the Mosaic laws for remission of sin of the old covenant (animal sacrifices and ceremonial shadow laws fulfilled in JESUS and God's work of salvation for mankind in the new covenant). There is no such think as the 613 commandments in the new covenant Bob, or the 9 commandments. God's law (10 commandments) has the same role it always had and that is to give us the knowledge of Good and Evil; Sin and Righteousness according to the new covenant scriptures *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4; PSALMS 119:172; JAMES 2:10-11. God's law (10 Commandments) leads us to Christ that we might be forgiven through faith in the new covenant *GALATIANS 5:16 so that we can be free to walk in God's Spirit *GALATIANS 5:16. Faith does not do away with God's 10 commandments it establishes them *ROMANS 3:31 through love *ROMANS 13:8-10. This is God's new covenant promise to everyone who believes *HEBREWS 8:10-11. There is no such thing as the 613 commandments Bob. According to the scriptures there is only 10 commandment written with the finger of God on two tables of stone * EXODUS 32:16; EXODUS 34:28; DEUTERONOMY 4:13; DEUTERONOMY 10:4 and if we knowingly beak anyone of them when we have been given a knowledge of the truth of Gods' Word and reject it we stand guilty before God of sin *JAMES 2:10-11; HEBREWS 10:26-27; ACTS OF THE APOSTLES 17:30-31.

Hope this helps
