For America to make daylight savings time permanent. The Sunshine Protection Act passed in the senate. Now it heads to the House of Representatives. The bill is a bipartisan one that many Americans will surely support. I think it is essential to accentuate the positives we see in our government institutions. They actually worked together in the interests of American citizens. I would shout from my rooftop but my neighbors are too far away to hear. The time has come pun came from the article.

Here comes the sun: Senate agrees on permanent Daylight Saving Time

I think so too. As a younger man, the time change seemed insignificant. Now that I've entered my fifties I feel differently. I'm witnessing changes in myself that I used to scoff at my grandma for saying hahaha.

I don't care which one gets picked...just pick one and DO IT! I've hated these time changes ever since I knew what a clock was.

I agree with stopping changing the clocks, but lets move back to standard time instead of daylight savings.
I can appreciate your opinion on this. Living in Virginia it would be beneficial to keep daylight savings time. I understand the United States has many time zones. Geography plays a large role in one's view of which time to keep. I was visiting relatives in Indiana in the summer and it was approaching ten pm by the time it was dark.

heh heh...why not doing something complicated instead, like split the difference, and have a plethora of time zones as you cross the border? heh heh (ok, just kidding )

Just pointing out there is really no advatage to sticking with daylight savings and being an hour ahead of the world for the winter months.

Some Americans don't want to see nightfall at 5 pm tho. There are advantages for some folks in keeping DST.

We can survive nightfall at 5 pm, we did for years before daylight savings time.

I sense a great disturbance in the Force.
As if millions of computer programs who were expecting daylight savings time
Suddenly encountered something unexpected...
A lethal case of Congressional Oversight

Sure. And we could likely survive daylight savings time as well. I prefer savings time but it isn't worth fighting about. Which is probably what this bill will encounter in the house of representatives. I'd love to see them work together to compromise. America is better served without the tribal partisanship infesting politics today.

It really doesn't matter to me. Some people are concerned that when the days are shortest school children waiting for buses will be out alone in the dark, or farmers can't get a head start on the day (but don't farmers do most of the work in spring, summer and fall? As long as they had lights in the barns when they went out to take care of the livestock it shouldn't be a problem.)

But I am not affected in the least by changing time. When my children were very young it took them a few days to get used to a new sleep schedule. I think we should do whatever is most respectful of everyone's needs.

Yes agreed. pick one, and business will accommodate, Farming doesn't care since they rise at dawn of whatever relevant time. there is no good reason.

I know a lot of farmers and they complain about the time changes too. They also aren't dependent on a clock to tell them when to start their work for the day. The sun and the animals determine that one.

Uh, no. If still on daylight savings time the clocks would say 6 when the sundials say 5.

It also would get light later (based on the clocks. So if Boston in it the middle of the time zone it would get light at 7 based on standard time but 8 on year round daylight savings time. Which means any kids walking or taking the bus to school would do so in darkness.
