In the crucifixion account in the Gospels we find the two robbers, in the gospel of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John
But in Lukes gospel, the one robber is seen more in a positive light, whereas in the other two, he is not.

Did he have a change of mind while on the cross and this detail is omitted?
Or is this difference linked more to the intent of each particular gospel?

In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.

Matthew 27:44 NIV

Let this Messiah, this king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
Mark 15:32 NIV

God well knows who is sincere and who is only playing religion. Our Lord could look on the heart of the thieves there on the cross and see the repentance of one, and did rescue him by promising paradise. Sometimes the wording in our Bible uses words that are not the best rendering, so all readings should be tested by Bible concordances

You don't have to believe this, but there are traditions that Luke knew Mary personally and possibly gathered some of his Gospel from her. So it could be that she told him this, as she was a direct witness. You may even say it isn't "tradition", as Luke attests himself: "just as they were delivered to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word". He says "from the beginning were eyewitnesses". So that would have to include Mary.
