I came into contact with the Stella Maris Apostolate in the early 1960s when the SVP conference I was a member of visited the Stella Maris Hostel in the Port of Manchester on Saturday afternoons .
We would go on board ships and tell Catholic sailors from all nations about the hostel . They could go to socialize on the Saturday evening , and there was Mass in the hostel on Sunday morning .
