This song being so popular shows what a sad state Christianity today is in.
It looks to me like he is saying "God, even if You aren't faithful, I will be faithful.
God told us to speak to the mountain and if we believed what we said that mountain would get up and go into the sea.
Jesus told us when things seem overwhelming to not let our heart be troubled.

All of the other songs by MercyMe I like. I just wish they would go back to singing the songs like Greater, Flawless and I can only imagine.

Even if is based on Daniel 3.

It may be based on Daniel 3, but I don't hear any of the courage those men had related in this song.
90% of this song is "Woe is me, I have so many problems" and then at the very end he says the one positive thing in the whole song, "It is well with my soul".
When I read the Psalms and the writer talks about how bad he is having it, he spends much more time exalting the God and the hope he has.
We can't be spending all our time talking about our problems and then give a quick note of acknowledgment of hope at the end and truly expect to have the comfort those words "It is well with my soul" should give.

I think it's popular first because Mercy Me is so popular. But also it shows hope. It shows faith. That we suffer, and sometimes God doesn't heal--we have to go through something--it is still well with my soul.
