I bought this little binder thing called Life Essentials A Guide for Spiritual Growth, and after it goes through ways you can use the guide, it lists what the editor (William L. Thrasher, Jr.) calls "The Seven Calls of Jesus Christ."
I just wanted to share them with you for discussion or just to read.
1.) A call to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness. (Matthew 6:33) Put first things first. In everything we do we should always start by seeking to keep God's kingdom and His righteousness as our main pursuit. Our lives are mant to glorify Him, and we were made to enjoy Him. Yet, so often we are drawn to seek other things.
2.) A call to focus thoughts properly. (Philippians 4:8-9) Next we are commanded to think on what is true and honorable and right. In light of our culture today, this is not an easy thing to accomplish. There is much to avoid if we are going to be faithful to this command. Spending time in God's Word is the best way to set our minds on things above.
3.) A call to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord. (Colossians 1:10) What we think about has a direct relationship to what we do. The Bible is very clear taht we are called to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord. We are to keep His commandments. For true disciples of Christ, life's central purpose is to please God - to serve Him through every action, word, and thought.
4.) A call to a consistent, victorious life. (Psalm 16:8-9) Without the supernatural work of God, it would be impossible to lead a victorious life. But with the in-dwelling presence of the Holy Spirit we can lead a consistent and victorious life.
5.) A call to a holy life. (1 Peter 1:13-16) As we grow in our walk with Christ, we are called to live a holy life. We must rid ourselves of those things that keep us from becoming holy and blameless, and practice instead the disciplines that will lead us into greater godliness.
6.) A call to follow and work for the Living Christ (Philippians 3:12-13) Next, we are to become more and more like Christ. We are called to learn of Him, to follow and serve Him, and to be transformed into His image.
7.) A call to keep our eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:1-2) Finally, we are encouraged to fix our eyes on Jesus. It is this exercise that will keep us on track and will provide the balance and direction we need.
