Maybe some are puzzled by how De Montfort calls the Rosary a sign of predestination...and that those who hate it, are led by the devil:
I thought maybe I'd address that.
He definitely does speak with conviction about this, but it's not the type of thing you'd hear people saying today.
But one of the promises of the Rosary, given by Our Lady to Bl. Alan de la Roche, is that : "Devotion to my Rosary is a great sign of predestination"
of course when we say predestination, we don't mean it like the Calvinists do.. it's spoken of in the 'Catholic' sense.
I think what De Montfort means is that being in heresy is never from God. And that if someone is in heresy (even if not formally a heretic), they hold to some doctrines that are incorrect. In itself this might not be their fault... but if they scorn the Rosary, we can see that something is wrong, because why would anyone scorn the words of the Angelic Salutation and the Our Father, which have divine origin? also, these are the words that brought the Incarnation - the mystery of our Redemption. De Montfort sees this as a sign of danger for the person's soul. Of course, their hatred for it could just come from misunderstanding..maybe they were taught by others that the Rosary is evil, or "vain repetition". In that case, I don't know. But we do know that if someone loves the Rosary, (even if they don't pray it every day) - that is a good sign.
De Montfort talks about another type of people as well. They might be Catholics, in this case. They're those who consider the Rosary beneath them spiritually. This is of course also a bad sign because it shows pride.
any thoughts?
The heretics, all of whom are children of the devil and clearly bear the sign of God's reprobation, have a horror of the Hail Mary. They still say the Our Father but never the Hail Mary; they would rather wear a poisonous snake around their necks than wear a scapular or carry a rosary.
My Hail Mary, my Rosary of fifteen or of five decades, is the prayer and the infallible touchstone by which I can tell those who are led by the Spirit of God from those who are deceived by the devil.
I have known souls who seemed to soar like eagles to the heights by their sublime contemplation and who yet were pitifully led astray by the devil. I only found how wrong they were when I learned that they scorned the Hail Mary and the Rosary which they considered as being far beneath them.
I thought maybe I'd address that.
