Why is much of Mathew, John and Luke the same storys?
The four gospels are the four inspired accounts written by four different authors retelling the story of the ministry and passion of Jesus Christ. They include many of the same stories with complementary details because they are all written about the same Jesus, who did the same works and testified of the same thing.

They are all called gospels, because a person could read all of them either together or individually and know how to receive everlasting life, although some are written with differing emphasis. The Gospel of John is specifically written to teach people about assurance of salvation, the doctrine of the Godhood of Jesus, the Trinity, and how to be saved in general. Matthew is written which has emphasis on the kingship and fulfilled OT prophecies of Jesus. Mark's emphasis is on the service and miracles that Jesus performed, and Luke is an emphasis on his humanity.

Thanks, I thought it might've been that.

Lip service isn't really service.

Because they are witnessing to the same events. It is good to have more than one witness, I believe.

Matthew, Mark and Luke are called “The Synoptic” gospels. That means “same eye.” They are based on the same events. John also overlaps, being a gospel, but it also has many different stories.

Further, Matthew was written to the Jews, and Luke was written to one Theophylus, a lover of God. Luke was Greek, so he uses much more difficult Greek, and reflects a Greek outlook. Mark is much simpler and more basic. Finally John is thought to have been written later than the other three gospels. It also uses the word, “signs” for Jesus miracles.

So, different audience is another factor. It is good to look at the life of Jesus from four different perspectives. Of course, other books in both the OT & the NT add to our knowledge of Jesus, too.
