The Republican Party has latched on to 'awoke' — because it has nothing else
The Republican Party has decided to make "woke" its public enemy No. 1, weaponizing the word against its political opponents.
Republicans have latched on to "woke" out of necessity. They know they need something, or someone, to blame — and fast — for President Biden's popularity and their own failings. This is especially critical now that Republicans have come under fire from some smart people in their own party for sticking with Trump.

Former president George W. Bush went first, saying that if the Republican Party stands for "exclusivity" and "white Anglo-Saxon Protestantism, then it's not going to win anything." Last month, during an interview with NBC’' "Today," Bush said today's GOP is "isolationist, protectionist and to a certain extent nativist."

I don't understand how being "woke" ever got construed to being a bad thing.

Politically correct. Woke. The GOP has a knack for co-opting labels. What's next -the golden rule? Treating others as we would want to be treated is surely woke.

60% of America is white. 13.5% is black. They may not want to buy into the new Black Panther revival. Can you blame them? Some of them have been abused by black power activists.

And now they have nothing but their fear...

Let's not forget who has done the abusing -- for over 160 years! Comparing abuse by "black power activists" and whites' treatment of people of color since before the US was even a country is a tragic way of distorting history.

Have you noticed how it is no longer referred to as "black" in the language they use; but "people of color". Truly a word with no meaning as we all have color. It is an obvious attempt to enlist darker skinned people who are not racially Negroid, such as Indians and Hispanics, who racially are Caucasian or mostly Caucasian.

This sort of vagueness of framing one's opinions and irregular usage of words is truly mind-boggling. Take the word "woke". In normal usage it can refer to becoming awake from sleep or becoming awake to reality. Where this becomes disingenuous is when people try to tell others that their reality is not "woke" and that they have to change their perception of reality to encompass someone else's. So this practically reverses the previous meaning where someone is asked to view their reality dispassionately and accept the reality around them to resolve cognitive dissonance. In the new meaning, you are asked to create cognitive dissonance with your reality to accept someone else's reality. I know that we are called to be compassionate; but compassion should never be predicated by mandate or tearing down someone for not being able to understand your reality.

All that this is about is calling a movement by the name chosen by that movement itself. Big deal. No deal, actually.

But it does show how defensive the "Woke" people are, not their opponents.

It's hardly a weakness on the part of political moderates to refer to the woke people by their own term of reference. There's nothing slanderous or insulting about the word "woke," either, but what better term would you suggest?

That's nice. Remind us what else the Republican Party has going for it?

That would be largely people who self identified as Democratic Party Members.

Seems to be a recurring theme. I offer the following observation.

Left: We support being politically correct
Rught: this is why political correctness is dangerous to a free society
Left: why is the right making up words?

Left: allows Antifa to thrive and expand, VP starts funds for bailing them out

Right: We need to stop the daily violence Antifa is causing with the deaths and millions of dollars of destruction

Left: Antifa? That is just a myth from conspiracy theorist

IMHO nothing has changed.

Woke means aware.
When 70% of Republicans ignore mountains of evidence to allege that there is substantial voter fraud and Biden stole the election, there is obviously a massive awareness deficit in our country.
60 court decisions against Trump's allegations. Homeland Security vouching for the safest election in history.

Guns, abortion, and woke.

For some people thats everything important. Probably not enough people tho.

LGBTQ should be added to your list, IMO. I know plenty of other conservatives who like to rant about homosexuals, transgenders, and same-sex marriage. Meanwhile, these conservatives are loyal to a twice divorced and thrice married adulterer, who bragged about groping multiple women, paid off his inappropriate content star and playboy bunny mistresses, and has taken the Lord's name in vain in his speeches.

He has also incited violence and praised violence. He has been perpetually dishonest and he has used profanity to berate people and other countries. He continues to cruelly insult and mock other people.

Despite their continued loyal support of Donald Trump, some of his supporters seem to be under the impression that they still have the moral high ground to judge Biden and other Democrats or judge LGBTQ and anyone else they don't personally like. And gone are the days of "I voted for a president, not a pastor" whenever they point a judgmental finger at President Biden for his sins and mistakes.

So the current GOP is all about GAWL then.

I think there is also an underlying theme of white grievance, but that could fall under woke (it can be an alternate W).

The really pathetic thing is that any negative effects on the typical white person of even the most "out there" 'woke' proposals are nothing compared to the effect they'll see from:
-the typical persons diminished economic power
-inadequate health care access
-housing shortage
-climate change
-the next pandemic
-etc etc

So yeah there's probably some gripping fear about the loss of the white majority in America. I think a lot of that is spun up by conservative "thought leaders" who are just using woke panic to head off their real fear: economic justice.

A little more than 1/8 of the American population is responsible for 1/2 the murders. Theses murderers are African Americans.

Remember northern states did not keep slaves. According to FBI statistics blacks are killing whites at a higher rate than whites are killing blacks. I would not blame the police for all these problems. There are police in jail, but most are not killers.
