The Proper Perspective-Daily Message-October 8, 2008
Dear Daily Message Readers,
READ: Jonah 3
BIBLEGATEWAY LINK: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/...03;&version=47; Jonah 3:1-2 The LORD said to Jonah a second time, 2 ‘Go immediately to Nineveh, that large city, and proclaim to it the message that I tell you.’”

In January, we spent nearly two weeks on how to effectively study the Bible. One of the techniques we discovered was asking the question, “What does the text say and what does it not say?” This assists us in finding, in the context, what is truly being said.

If we were to apply that study strategy to Jonah 3:1-2, we would discover some amazing truths. Notice that God didn’t say to Jonah, “It is about time you got it right! So, go to Nineveh right now, and you better get it right!” Nor did God say, “Go to Nineveh and don’t mess things up!” No, Jonah understood that, despite his rebellion and sin, the Lord heard his cry of repentance.

The Lord had been wronged by Jonah, yet he treated the prophet as if he had never done anything wrong. That's forgiveness only a loving and just God can do!

When God forgives your sin, it is absolutely permanent. There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. God’s forgiveness is irrevocable, can’t be cancelled, or removed. If you are a Christian, then all your sins for all time have been forgiven. This is why Paul can of true believers:
Romans 8:31-34 “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died--more than that, who was raised--who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us;"

Like Jonah, there will be consequences for our rebellion against God. But praise God no one can come with any successful accusation before the throne of God because we have a lawyer for our defense, Jesus Christ, who is our Advocate, and who is at the very right hand at this moment of God interceding for us.

Faith Lesson: Psalm 103:11-12 “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us

In Christ,
