We are the problem. We are bringing about the end of the United States. Our country, as we know it, crumbles before our eyes, and we cheer it along, determined to defeat one another. Tyranny does loom on the horizon, but it's not because of socialism, Trump, or Hunter's laptop. Tyranny looms because we have abandoned rational thought and decided that we would blindly follow the random ideas of whoever says something we like. We get our news from Twitter and treat YouTube as an authority. Worse than anything else, we believe that those who disagree with us are our enemies. We WANT the parties to fight because we are addicted to the feeling that we know more than our neighbors. We are the problem.

"The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of public liberty."

-George Washington's Farewell Address
