My gripe with him is simple: he wants socialism for us, but not for himself. If he did, why does he own three homes, one worth more than $1 million?

Now, my girlfriend liked him, but can't stand him after he kowtowed to Hillary during the convention. She, like many Bernie fanatics, wanted him to walk-out of the convention and take all his supporters with him to protest how the DNC rigged the primary for Hillary, whom Rachel can't stand, period. She wrote-in "Bernie" when she voted just to protest Hillary. LOL

It's a shame that so many Republicans have a problem with socialism while they still support the military and the police. Do Republicans support the G.I. Bill and veteran benefits? It's humorous to hear all these Republicans ranting about socialism taking over, but I'm confident that they would call the fire department if their house was on fire and they like having their trash picked up once a week by the garbage collection. I'm also confident that they have used the postal service before, driven on public highways, borrowed books from the public library and send their children to public school. I'm guessing that they are also relieved to see criminals locked away in the jail and prison system too.

I can't help but wonder how many of the Republicans who are ranting about socialism went through college depending on federal student loans or how many of them receive social security checks or how many of them received unemployment payments if they lost their job and were out of work for awhile.

And to be honest, they really shouldn't complain about socialists because it's a socialist program that funds border security, which regulates Mexican immigrants from coming through the southern border.

66. Customs and Border Protection - the CBP is the largest law enforcement agency in America. This is big government that republicans actually do like because they don't like Mexicans immigrating to our country like our ancestors did. However, this taxpayer funded, socialist agency of the federal government regulates trade, imports, and immigration. (75 Ways Socialism Has Improved America)

Bernie probably supported Hillary so he could keep his options open for 2020 and so he could stay in good graces with the Dems in the Senate. By the way, I agree with your girlfriend, except that I voted for a Third Party candidate.

Its amazing how many people of any political leaning think Socialism is nothing more than what you've laid before us here. I would, in fact, love to see someone say its a shame that so many Republicans or Americans have a problem with the federal government controlling almost every aspect of each persons life. Then we would be talking "real world" issues. Oh no, we already know that no one wants that. Even the most liberal thinkers do not want the federal government to censor our computers or reading material or confiscate their land without compensation, etc.--for the common good or to help some less fortunate person, you know.

That is consistent with augmented capitalism, however. Universal socialism is as destructive as Darwinian capitalism. We don't need to be equally rich (or poor).

OK, so Bernie is a phony. And by the way, that is the nature of all Socialist systems--its not about everyone being equal. Its about everyone being more or less equally deprived except for the rulers, the Socialist Party members and Socialist intellectuals. Neither Bernie or AOC are at all defensive about being found out. That's because they are entitled, as a consequence of being "for the people" generally speaking.

The problem with Bernie is that he's too old.

Sanders has been "keeping it real" for 50 years, and Millennials respect that because they're invested in the concept of the Old Master (Gandalph, Obi-Wan, Dumbledore).

But Sanders' best action for the party would be to endorse some younger candidate. Democrats need a candidate who will be vital for eight years.

Boomers shouldn't be running. The Boomer party leaders should have been grooming a generation of replacements. Obviously they have failed in that respect, with the result of being surprised by a bunch of unruly upstarts.

I advise everyone not to vote for any more Boomers.

Socialism is "a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole."

What you posted is not socialism.

Cops are the government's job. Regulating things with enforcement is the govt's job, regardless of the economy. Military are basically cops against foreign aggression.

Socialism is when everyone owns the means of production and distribution (and exchange). Communism is when the state owns the means of production and distribution. Neither have been proven to work long-term.

Social security and Medicare/Medicaid are socialistic programs, but that doesn't make America socialism. If we can make it work, I really don't mind Universal Health Care for citizens. Yes, citizens not every Tom, Dick and Harry living here unless they are taxpayers and legal. That would exclude illegal aliens. They shouldn't be in the country in the first place.

Socialism is when that which you attributed to Communism occurs. Communism is merely a Marxist theory, and that is why we call devotees "Communist"--for believing it.

Unlike Socialism, the Communist phase of the Marxist theory of historical development never has occurred and never will.

Please point to specific policies Bernie supports that would somehow prohibit people from owning a million dollar home?

The real problem is people do not educate themselves on what Bernies about. There's "democratic socialism" and then theres "socially democratic". The first one is what people think of, the other is what Bernie wants, which is more like Sweden.

Its why I ask people "Do you know the difference?". They usually reply "Socialism is socialism!". That's like saying steak is a burger.

I think that you meant your response for someone else. I didn't propose that Bernie was a phony. I said that he was consistent with a lighter form of socialism, augmented capitalism.

Russia was definitely Communist for decades. China was, too. China adapted. Venezuela is definitely socialist (and it has failed). Cuba will eventually be capitalist again.

Bernie is a socialist. How far down the rabbit hole Bernie would go is the question.

Many say, "European Socialist" to define what AOC and Bernie want. Many then claim Sweden as an example of Socialism that works. Hate to break it to them, Sweden went market-based economy after trying socialism and it failed in the 80s/90s. They learned their lesson. Venezuela has not. One Swedish guy was so sick of socialists claiming Sweden as socialist, he made a documentary (see above post) on how wrong they are.
