I was going to make a post last night but forgot about site maintanence. Well I'm through Isaiah 33... I have a lot of thoughts, beginning with Proverbs since I didn't post any of those thoughts...

A lot of principals are repeated in Proverbs so I won't go through individual passages, but there are just some themes that really stuck out to me. If I want to be wise, there are two steps I need to take which is: 1) hang out with wise people and don't get caught up hanging with a foolish crowd. 2) Do not resent rebuke but rather take it as constructive criticism and use it to help me grow. It seems to me that a soft, loving, patient heart is a wise heart, while a hard, stubborn heart (which I have a lot) is a foolish heart.

Also, I need to avoid temptation. The foolish thing about sin is that it leads to death, yet it can look so seductive up front. I don't want to damage myself continually through sinning, and I need to realize what all sins really are and there's nothing attractive or good about it. In Isaiah 3:16-26 it says the daughters of Zion's secret parts will be made known. This is what he says about them: "Instead of a sweet smell there will be a stench; instead of a sash, a rope; instead of well-set hair, baldness; instead of a rich robe, a girding of sackcloth; and branding instead of beauty." How attractive would strippers/prostitutes/porn stars/etc. look to us if they were revealed for what they really are and not for what their outwardly seductive appearance looks like?

Also two more things about proverbs. Proverb 1:7 says "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction." Wisdom is commonly viewed as someone that sets people above others and makes them better and smarter. But real wisdom comes not from setting ourselves higher, but lower. It isn't about gaining, it's about willingly serving and submitting to God. To further that point, Isaiah 10:15 says "Shall the ax boast itself against him who chops with it? Or shall the saw exalt itself against him who saws with it? As if a rod could wield itself against those who lift it up, or as if a staff could lift up, as if it were not wood!" An axe can't be more wise then the man who uses the axe, how can we as men boast in ourselves or put ourselves above God because of what we perceive as our wisdom? True wisdom is in humbleness and submission to God.

Also I want to point out Proverbs 8:22-36, just because it says some very insightful things about Jesus. I won't go throw them, but just wanted to bring attention to those verses, cuz I love em!

Ecclesiastes 1:18 "For in much wisdom is much grief, and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow." The more we know, the more open and perceptive we are to pain. That means if we are to increase wisdom, we have to prepare our hearts for it and be diligent, less we become overwhelmed with grief.

Ecclesiastes 3:12-13 "I know that nothing is better for them than to rejoice, and to do good in their lives, and also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor--it is the gift of God." See, God wants us to work hard and be productive, and He wants us to enjoy the goods of it! It makes Him happy to see us work hard and be successful and find joy in it!

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up." Makes me think, one person with their heart on Jesus, following Him with all he has, can do amazing things. How much more can two people, who both have their hearts completely focused on Jesus, can accomplish?

Ecclesiastes 5:10-11 "He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver; Nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity. When goods increase, they increase who eat them; so what profit have the owners except to see them with their eyes?" What a great lesson on materialism :)

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 - I love that this book has a conclusion, and it's very clear: fear God and keep His commandments!

I don't have much to say about the Song of Solomon, other than it makes me want to get married even more... lol

Isaiah 5:18-23 - Isaiah gives his woes for all different types of people. There are some tough things here like "Woe to men mighty at drinking wine..." I have many friends who say they love Jesus, but often they compete in drinking games. They cheer and laugh and egg each other on, and congratulate those who can drink the most. There are all sorts of things Isaiah gives woes to here, but they are some pretty tough messages and I need to be very careful as I don't want to be someone that Isaiah "woes" to.

Isaiah 6:3, the Seraphim are crying to each other saying "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!" That's so awesome, the entire earth, everything we know and even the things we don't know, they all proclaim God's glory!

Isaiah 7:14 - Talks about the sign, which is a virgin giving birth to a son (Jesus). I love the name it gives Him here: Immanuel, which means "God-with-us." It isn't God for us, or God above us, it's God with us, abiding IN us, loving us! Praise the Lord!!

    Isaiah 9:6 - <3 I love you Jesus!

Isaiah 14:12-17 talks about satan. I love this verse about him "Those who see you (satan) will gaze at you, and consider you, saying: is this the man who made the earth tremble, who shook kingdoms, who made the world as a wilderness and destroyed its cities, who did not open the house of his prisoners?" There will be a day where we will see satan for what he really is, and I bet you we will shake our heads and go really? That's what tripped us up? That's what made us stumble so badly?

okay woah that was long. I think that's all my thoughts for now. God bless you all, how's the reading coming for y'all?

I'm still stuck in chronicles, but I'm making a new goal to be through the Bible by the end of the year. Secondly, I'm currently participating in a Daniel fast for 21 days. I am currently on day 8. Pray for me. It is amazing the things that are revealed when you are fasting, things you never realized you struggled with. So, that is it for me for now.

Awesome praying for you! Well I am still stuck somewhere in the midst of life. I am going to try and do some reading over the next couple of days as I am going to be with my sister as she has a minor operation and then recovers (my sister is really, really, really not good at these types of things). Also had a job interview last week and didn't get the job. I have been really frustrated about that whole situation and that hasn't helped my poor attitude at the moment. :sigh:
Anyway praying for you all and hoping that I will get out of this (maybe I will have to do a Daniel's diet just to figure out what is going on with my life)

don't have time to post my thoughts, but I finished Isaiah (which is now easily one of my favorite books of the Bible, wow!) and I'm through Jeremiah 30... Nothing like a good long plane ride to get into the word :)

Yay, good job! I liked Isaiah a lot too. It did get a little boring though in the endless chapters of every single tribes sins and blah... But that's just life I guess. Oh, and just so you know, I enjoy your reports a lot, so keep them coming! :p [I just finished Jeremiah 14 in the bus on Friday, if I can recall correctly, and planning to get ahead with it tonight.]

okay, going to try and catch up with some of my thoughts here, I've read a lot and only posted a little lol... I'm through Ezekiel 31 at the moment...

Isaiah 48:8-11 - I love how God realized that Israel would turn from Him and yet He still defers His righteous anger to them, for His glory. He made sure to find a way to bring them (and all of us) grace, instead of just doing what would have been fair and condemning us all for our sins.

Isaiah 49:6 - This verse shows that Christ was coming not just for the Jew, but the gentile as well :)

Isaiah 50:1-11 - I love this set of verses. Jesus knows that He will be mocked and beaten and spit at and all sorts of things, but what He also knows is that God will help Him and use that suffering for His glory, so Jesus can come to earth happily, knowing that even with all the hardshapes He will face, it wouldn't be shameful, it would further God's glory.

Isaiah 55:8-9 "For My thoughts are not your thought, nor are your ways My ways,' says the Lord. 'For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.'" Sometimes I have a habit of thinking I know better, when I get that attitude, I really need to check myself because God's ways are higher and His guidance will lead me to where I want to go, not my own guidance.

Isaiah 59 basically gives us the how and why Israel was separated from God.

Here's just an awesome praise, Isaiah 61:10-11 "I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. For as the earth brings forth its bud, as the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations." :amen:

Isaiah 64:5-12 shows our need for a savior.

Jeremiah 6:10 talks about people who have no delight in the word of God. That's a bad place to be in, it seems. I hope and pray I will always delight in His word!

Jeremiah 9:23-24 - beautiful verse. We shouldn't glory in ourselves or petty things, we should glory in knowing God and knowing who He is! That's where all the honor and glory is!

Jeremiah 15:15-21 I love this! God doesn't promise Jeremiah an easy time, he's going to be persecuted. What God does promise is that those who are against him will not prevail, that God will help him! I love that that's how our God is. He's not going to make everything easy and perfect, but He's with us every step of the way and He will protect us from our enemies!

Jeremiah 17:5-10 - Should we make our strength our flesh, or our trust in the Lord? I think the answer is clear here, and God searches our heart, He knows where we put our value and strength in.

Jeremiah 33:6-16 - some great stuff about Jesus here :)

Jeremiah 44:7 - Sinning isn't just committing evil against the Lord, it's committing evil against yourself. That's important to remember that when we sin, we put ourself on the receiving end of consequences that we don't have to deal with if we can just stop sin in its tracks!

Jeremiah 44:16-17 - I talked about this in the post a bible verse thread, but just to touch on it here, they blatantly ignore the word of God and decide to choose to trust their own words instead. That's a tough issue, I'm guilty of that sometimes. Gotta learn to rid myself of pride and see that God is right and His ways are best.

Lamentations 1:8-9 - Jerusalem's shame. This verse gives me a heavy heart, I'll tell ya what... It really is sad.

Lamentations 3:21-33 - After all that sadness, these verses bring hope!

Ezekiel 6:8-10 - this is so sad. God talking about how He was crushed by what Israel did. Wow, imagine breaking God's heart? That's just so depressing and sad.

Ezekiel 11:19-20 - God making us new through Jesus!

Ezekiel 14:23 - Everything God does is with cause!

Ezekiel chapters 16 and 23 - Talk all about the harlotry and adultery committed by Jerusalem. It's incredible seeing God talk about Jerusalem as His bride and how He views them (and really, how He views us) and how they treated Him back.

Ezekiel 18:23, 18:30-32 - God's desire for us is to repent and live!

*deep breath* phew, okay all caught up! Love you guys!

    That is awesome kevlite.

As for me I am still in 2 Chronicles. I am working my way through it but I am also working my way through a lot of issues I have with God. It is funny how confronting the Old Testament is. When you read about all the kings and how they worked with or didn't work with God, you realise just how hard it is to hold onto your faith. It is so easy to get sidetracked into doing the wrong thing.

Anyway I hope and pray that you all have a blest holiday. I am going to be amazingly busy especially as my adorable nieces are here. It really is a blessing from the Lord that all of us are able to meet at this wonderful time of year to celebrate all the wonderful things He has done for us.

Thats great Kevlite! I am slowly working my way through it and have finally finished 2 Chronicles. It has been a really busy Christmas period for me as most of my mum's brothers and sisters were here for my dad's birthday and the last of the visitors left today! So life has been complicated for a while and I am just starting to sort it all out.

I am hoping the new year will see more dedicated in my reading of God's word.

I will soon let you know all that is but please be praying for me over the next couple of days that I will rely on His will. Thanks

I have been rather slack and my mind has wandered into other areas. It is dreadful to think that when I have needed the Lord the most I have slowed down my reading! D'oh! I have all the excuses in the world but the truth is that none of them really matter. I need Christ to be the centre of everything not just when I have time.
Anyway I moving to Dili, East Timor (that is why I have changed my flag). I know there is a lot the Lord is going to do with me there and I know that I am going where He wants me to be.
Also as I am the only one left in this thread who hasn't yet finished and not knowing how much time I will actually get to write here over the next couple of weeks/month, I will gracefully say goodbye now. I will try and let you know when I am settled how I am going with my reading.
    Until then God bless

It is farely safe. There are still UN peace keepers as well as Australia Defence Force troops and the AFP (Australia Federal Police). I am going to be teaching ex-pat students in a Grade 1/2 class. It is going to be amazing and it is a wonderful answer to prayer.
Please keep praying for me. It is a developing nation and although God has worked His plan through all of this I still know it is going to be as challenging and rewarding as any other leap of faith that we take.
