  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Agreed.

And I haven't heard Pillar's version of it either, but I doubt a rap/rock band is going to do it justice. And furthermore, I'd venture to say that anyone who thinks said rapcore band could do a better job than the original artist needs to be drug out into the streets and shot. That's right, shot I say.

hehe... I'll have to agree with you also, though not literally :D I haven't heard of Pillar before, but seeing they are rap/rock I feel like vomiting already.

Btw, glad you enjoyed the Chicago show. I get envious reading all the posts by people going to the tour. I'm still waiting for them to come down under, if they do.

But I must confess I haven't heard the cover by Pillar yet :p

It's a barely passable cover, IMO - as are most of the songs on the CD it comes from (In the Name of Love it's called and the songs are all covered by Christian artists) I do like Pillar, by the way - they have an excellent acoustic EP. But I gotta say that in terms of versions of SBS, I love the Live Under a Blood Red Sky one - I remember it's the first one that I ever heard and the studio version just has never impacted me as much...

Thanks for the info KristianJ. I've heard there is a Christian tribute album "In the Name of Love" but have never listened to it. I agree the Blood Red Sky version of SBS is much better than studio version. I need to find the pillar version to make some sort of comparison ;)

Has anyone heard about Bono saying "Jesus, Jew, Mohammed is true" during Love and Peace or Else during the Chicago concert while he wore the head scarf with the crescent, star of David and cross with the word 'coexist'.

http://www.atu2.com/news/article.src?ID=3875

There's a difference between coexistance and inter-faith dialogue and accepting essential truth in all three beliefs.

I've always respected Bono as a Christian thinker and artist, but if he falls for trendy unitarianism and compromises the Christian gospel...to me he'll just become another rich, philanthropic rock star.

Yeah, Most of them are available in lossless at "U2torrents.com". As for Mp3's have a look in the tour and audio section at interference. There is also a show being hosted at U2mp3's.com with the HTDAAB outtakes (but you have to sign up). And also "u2neophobia.com" has the Vancouver 28.04 in mp3 just look in the concerts section. I can't post the links because of the rules.

If have trouble getting them, I can upload some to your email address or post the CD's to you. Seeing that you live near me.

Thanks for this  Neenie. I might take you up on that offer at some stage. :)

Lighten up, junior, and go re-read my original post and the post before that one. I didn't say that Pillar did a "better job than" U2 when they covered Sunday Bloody Sunday. You totally took my post out of context. I merely said that I'm liking Pillar's version better "now". I've heard the original version a billion times, and Pillar's version is merely a fresh adaptation.

I've been a solid U2 fan since 1983, which is when the original version was released. Were you even alive in 1983? Do you remember when the bloodshed in Ireland was on the news almost daily?

In the future, I recommend you have all your facts in line before you "venture out" and say someone should be "drug out into the street and shot". And, in this case, you should've listened to Pillar's version before making your foolish post...

Neenie, Neenie, Neenie. Tsk-tsk. You guys need to calm down. Listen to the song before you reach for your barf-bag. You can find it on the "In The Name Of Love" CD, which is sort of a tribute CD by Christian artists giving all the proceeds to Africa.

Anyway, like I said in my response to moreinsorrow, I don't think Pillar's version is better than the original. Never said that. :)

BTW, I'll be at the Dallas show in October, and I can't freakin' wait... :D

People, people - nothing wrong with sharing opinions...I directed Neenie to a sample of the Pillar version, so she was able to hear it. And please remember that we're not here to shoot each other down - you can clarify info you've said without toeing the line when it comes to flaming. :)

I've always believed Bono to be a Christian thinker and artist as well. Even in an interview with Larry King just a couple of years ago, Larry asked him about being a Christian and Bono replied "That's what I hold onto". I've noticed reading many interviews and books that Bono has firm belief in the trinity, and wouldn't fall for Unitarianism.

Bono said in an interview a few years ago "Abraham is the father of all of these three families, and that's it's an interesting study" Don't know if this helps you, but I can post a link of the full transcript of his discussion of religion, if this part is any relevance to you.

I’m not going to believe what he supposedly said "literally” about Jesus, Jew, Mohammed is true, until he further explains it.

Btw Bad Templar,You can PM me anytime if you want shows or other U2 stuff.

My apologies, I took your post the wrong way  Anyway, Pillar's version doesn't sound bad from what I've heard. Just the first thought of a rap/rock cover of U2 put me off in the first place. ;)

I was just listening to some Vertigo boots, and it sounds to my ears Bono is rapping during (Sunday Bloody Sunday) "Jesus Jew, Mohammed too" (repeating) "no more" "no more" then say's "co-exist"

It's during SBS, Bono is asking for peace. He is not accepting truth in other religions, but respect for difference. I was curious after reading the post by TBT, It sounded like Bono was accepting truth in three faiths. But now I get what he means.

I'm really waiting for a soundboard on this tour. Am I the only one who likes these better? Because it seems allot of opinions at interference prefer audience recordings.

wow. My my my......oswald, listen. YOU need to lighten up, pal. I was saying that light-hearted. If you think something like that is said in seriousness on a message board, then you need to get outside more, and enjoy some sunlight and fresh air. I did misread your post, you're correct. But I was also making a statement that I don't think ANY band can do a U2 cover justice. And many have tried. Don't take it as a personal musical taste raping.

As to your trying to school me on being a fan, etc............I am only a year younger than you. I was a fan since the "War" album as well, a solid one, just like you, and yes I was alive when the song came out. Do I remember hearing about it on the news everyday? Honestly, no. I don't. I was too busy at age 9 playing with HotWheels to worry too much about the world climate, but I'd venture to say you weren't too far from it either, so I don't know that you really could've connected with the rage and torment going on in a foreign country much more than I. Maybe I'm wrong though. Maybe an 10 year old kid could have given a rip about the world climate 22 years ago.

Now, back to my so carelessly 'venturing out' with my comment. Lighten the F up, bro. It was tongue-in-cheek. You know....a little music elitist fun for someone not keeping it 'old school'. I find it ironic you tell me to lighten up, then proceed to rant on about something that was said so obviously as a joke. Sheesh.

Has anyone read this interview with Greg Kot? I've posted it here because it's one of the best interviews Bono has done since mother jones in 89. Previously Kot had made a not so nice review in the Chicago times about two weeks ago.

I find it interesting that these critics are saying the same things they said during the 90's, that U2 should go back to their old stuff. U2 were doing it better before ect ect. But it's good to see that Bono stood up to this guy and cleared things up.

Here it is http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/music/chi-050521bono-transcript,0,5870688.story

I posted it here but changed my mind becuase it's too big.
