It is the Body of Christ. The function is to spread the "Good News".

As priests of God we do not have to offer sacrifices for sin as Christ the Saviour has paid the sacrifice for our sin. As priests of God we are to offer the sacrifice of praise to Him. and the living sacrifice of loving service.
