Donald Devine makes a sound one in “The Enduring Tension.”

“Western civilization under its capitalist economic order has produced a worldwide cornucopia of consumer goods and a remarkable improvement in human health,” writes Donald Devine in The Enduring Tension: Capitalism and the Moral Order.

“But few among the beneficiaries are grateful,” he continues. “Many in the West are instead reconsidering socialism as an alternative economic order and way of life.”

Devine’s book is a learned, sound, and detailed answer to these critics. It couldn’t come at a more opportune moment, as global leaders from Joe Biden to Pope Francis seek to move the Western world away from capitalism.

I will support capitalism IF the little guy at the bottom gets paid a wage that would allow him/her to live on their own. Meaning they have money to pay for health insurance, they have money to afford a place to stay (comfortably), they have money to buy food and drink, they have money to afford some form of transportation, they have money to pay their utilities, and they have money leftover to buy a few other things. Otherwise, I don't support capitalism. At the same time, I definitely don't support socialism and communism. We need a new form of economic system and I believe we have people smart enough in this country to come up with one. We just need to try and not stand for the status quo. Yes, all those people who have made sufficient amounts of money that's perfectly but we need to remember not everybody has the talents of others but they still deserve to live decently and with dignity.

Socialism is whacky and a danger to humanity. So I can see us not wanting to endorse it. But I'm not sold on capitalism either. What moves me is the idea of small businesses and people owning the tools of production. I don't like our current system, not actually capitalism any more, but a mixture of socialism and mega-business mega-bank ownership of everything. The big guys are too big to fail. Ordinary people are allowed to fail. Small businesses are allowed to fail. rank capitalism would be better. But I'd like something more like distributism. It's free market as opposed to socialist.

Yeah, that's not Capitalism.
Capitalism is not creating a product or service and trading that product or service for either a different product or service or currency. That's Free Enterprise.

People Confuse and conflate Free Enterprise with Capitalism.

Capitalism is simply using money you already have to make bets, to make more money, while you sit back and do nothing, provide nothing, and contribute nothing to society, and only take from society what others contribute.

Capitalism is Anti-Christian in definition and in practice.

If you are referring to the stock market I fully agree with you. I liken stock trading to prostitution in the sense that it a lazy person's way of making possibly alot of money. And not caring about how that money making procedure causes damage to others in our society. If there is going to be a stock market then those companies participating in it need to have standards and three that I can think of off the bat are: a living wage for ALL workers, health insurance for all workers and a pension for all workers.
