There was always going to be an accompanying spike with more testing and reopening, and states need to calibrate their reactions as the facts on the ground change. But, to borrow a phrase, this is primarily a question of science. The crude partisan tale we keep hearing regarding red states, on the other hand, is little more than a fiction. Facts are not partisan.

The number of new cases of COVID19 in the US are higher than ever.

The states where these largest numbers of these cases are being reported are also reporting record high new case numbers. The percent of all tests that are positive are *rising* in those place. This means that the number of infected people is rising rapidly and the higher new case count is *not* just cased by more testing. (Higher positive rates means there are *more* undetected cases than before, not less.) Hospitalization rates are up in those states with ICU beds running out in many cities. Deaths take 2-3 weeks to happen in any significant numbers. The "spike" is only about 2 weeks old.

This source has betrayed you. It has pushed forth falsehoods to cast partisan blame on current events. You should reconsider using this author again as a reliable source of information.

There is an easy way to tell if you are detecting more virus because you are doing more testing, the percentage of positive cases out of the number of tests will decline.

If you are having more positive cases as a percentage of tests the number of infections is rising.

Right now the percentage of positive cases is going up while testing is expanding especially in places like Florida.

The only thing the article really gets right is that there will be more cases with early reopening. What it gets wrong (or more accurately puts a slant on) is that larger population centers that are hit earlier with the virus are expected to do more poorly, as there is little to do about it before you know what is going on and what to do.

Liberal areas tend to be on the coasts, have international airports and have more population density, so they are hit harder and sooner.

Due to the presentation of the facts at hand there is little doubt the writer is already aware of where the holes in the argument are.

The article would be right if COVID was finished right now. Facts do not lie but the interpretation of them is open for review. I have a decent background in stats and the slopes of the curves with no mitigation measures are pretty stable and increasing. Deaths are laggards to the infection rate and hopefully they trend down because we know how to treat COVID better, plus most younger people in the infection pool will mean less death as a percentage of infections. In spite of all that we should see record highs in deaths in places like AZ, FL and TX.

'Cause I was trying to offer you some friendly assistance. Your sources are trying to deceive you or manipulate you. This one doesn't seem worthy of your continued attention.

The US doesn't conduct enough actual tests for the rise in positive tests to not indicate a surge in actual coronavirus infections in the public (the WHO has said ideally 9 negative tests should come back for every positive test, and that's simply not happening in most of the US). Otherwise, you are talking about what amounts to junk science.

It is what the Republican Party is built on, well, that and junk meteorology.

And breaking into hotel rooms to dig up dirt on their political opponents.

That is so 1970s. Now they use the Russians and Chinese to get the dirt.

Funny though, those were real Republicans back in the day, the ones who would set the Justice Department after a racist and sleazy slumlord in New York who would not rent to certain people.

The narrative of covid has changed a lot since more has been learned about it.

If we're being honest...both sides have used it for sewing political division. It was always going to hit big cities first....Democrat areas. When that happened and rural red areas weren't affected, it was part of a left wing conspiracy theory to destroy small businesses/Republicans in office/etc.

Now that it's hitting those rural red areas....the Democrats are pretending that it's all because of "opening too soon".

Canada has largely been successful in controlling the virus and they are opening up businesses again. Their viral expert has admitted that she has no real confidence that Canada won't get hit by the virus hard.

The reality is that this was never going to be contained. It's an easily spread, highly contagious airborne virus.

No nation can shut down its economy indefinitely without doing so much damage that it negates the benefits of shutting down. There's simply no good choices.

Although CV new outbreaks are on the rise
the Country to survive
can't keep shutting down
and the people are defiantly showing
they are going back to life as usual
no matter what.

Do I agree with all that?
No, keeping it on the safer side here
but, getting out there a little
as life goes on.

China and their actors here
are trying to shut us down
and destroy our economy.

This might be the dumbest idea I have ever heard on these boards. With how much we buy from China, them destroying our economy would be suicide for them. China is not trying to destroy our economy unless they are also trying to destroy their own economy.

It was an office.

The Watergate complex consists (and consisted) of residential apartments, a hotel, and office space. The DNC was renting office space there.

If you are being honest, our country was fairly unified when the country went into lockdown. That started to end when the nations leadership increasingly ignored science and pressured governors to open before their states were ready.
