The Gospel is good news specifically concerning Jesus Christ.
There is no doubt we can find the Gospel in the Old Testament because God spoke to Patriarchs and Prophets of His plan to redeem the world from the fall of Adam.
In God's words to Abraham saying "In thee all nations of the world will be blessed."
Rather than hearing my opinion, I'm posting what Jesus, Paul, Peter, Mark, Luke and others have to say about the Gospel.
Keep in mind that the preaching of the Gospel results in people being baptized into Christ after confessing their sins and having declared faith in the message of the Gospel.
Luk 16:16 “The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John; since that time the gospel of the kingdom of God [fn]has been preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it.
Jesus speaking in Luke 16:16 said The Law and the Prophets was preached until John the Baptist, and from since that time the Gospel is being preached.
Some people are not convinced by Jesus that the preaching of the Law and the Prophets is primarily the Old Covenant and the New Covenant is based on faith in who Jesus is and His death to atone for sins.
Mark reinforces what Jesus said about when the Gospel began to be proclaimed
Mar 1:1 ¶The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;
Mar 1:2 As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
Mar 1:3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
Mar 1:4¶ John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
Mar 1:5 And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.
Mar 1:9 ¶ And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.
Mark's gospel gives us knowledge that the beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is with John preparing the way way for Jesus by preaching repentance and by baptizing all Israel, especially Jesus.
The argument about what to preach to Gentiles Christians is contested by Jewish converts against Peter, Paul, and James among other apostles, at the Jerusalem meeting in Acts 15.
Act 15:7 And after there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, “Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe.
What is Peter saying?
Let us go back to Acts 10 and see what Peter calls the word of The Gospel by my mouth to Cornelius.
Let us also look for a command to keep the law.
Cornelius speaking;
Act 10:33 So I sent for you at once, and you have been kind enough to come. Now therefore we are all here in the presence of God to hear all that you have been commanded by the Lord.”
Gentiles Hear the Good News
Act 10:34 ¶So Peter opened his mouth and said: “Truly I understand that God shows no partiality,
Act 10:35 but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.
Act 10:36 As for the word that he sent to Israel, preaching good news (Gospel) of peace through Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all),
Act 10:37 you yourselves know what happened throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism that John proclaimed:
Act 10:38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.
Act 10:39 And we are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree,
Act 10:40 but God raised him on the third day and made him to appear,
Act 10:41 not to all the people but to us who had been chosen by God as witnesses, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.
Act 10:42 And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead.
Act 10:43 To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”
The Holy Spirit Falls on the Gentiles
Act 10:44 ¶While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word.
Act 10:45 And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles.
Act 10:46 For they were hearing them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter declared,
Act 10:47 Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?”
Act 10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to remain for some days.
Commentary should follow and give way to what's written.
Peter declares that the Gospel is that God made peace through Jesus Christ and that He is Lord of Lord of all. After the baptism of John, He went around doing good and healing the sick. We are witnesses that they crucified Him on a tree. On the third day, God raised Him up.
