Paul wrote, "Having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say whether they be things in the earth, or things in heaven" Colossians 1:20.

"And you that were sometimes alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now has he reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreprovable in his sight" Colossians 1:21-22.

There it is, Lost sinners, Calvinist, Law keepers, Catholics, Pentecostals, Cultist, Religionist.

You have ALREADY been reconciled unto God by Jesus Christ.

Jesus now sits in heaven in your name and on your behalf, presenting to God the Father his righteousness on your behalf, "Presenting you Holy and unblameable and unreprovable in his sight".

What are you waiting for? Accept God's free offer to be reconciled. Do it now.

"All things are of God, who has reconciled US to himself by Jesus Christ, and has given unto us the ministry of reconciliation. God was in Christ reconciling THE WORLD unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and has committed unto us the word of reconciliation" 2 Corinthians 5:18-19.

In the Gospel Jesus Christ takes upon himself our sinful humanity and puts it to death, Romans 6:6. In his resurrection he brings forth a new humanity, 2 Corinthians 5:17. Jesus Christ is God's creation, and we are new creations in Jesus Christ.

Paul said, "I beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead BE YE RECONCILED UNTO GOD, 2 Corinthians 5:20.

All that come to Christ as repentant sinners to be saved by him are given the Holy Spirit. It is the work of the Holy Spirit to bring about repentance and the Christian life. If there is no change, chances are that they did not believe.

Those that accepted Jesus in the as their savior in the New Testament were harlots, thieves. tax collectors, etc. The self-righteous Pharisees rejected him.

Are you saying that this is not to include all Paul's teaching on the subject--where all things salvific apply only to the regenerate who believe in and trust on the person and atoning sacrifice (blood, Romans 3:25) of Jesus Christ for the remission of their sin and right standing with God's justice; i.e., "not guilty," declared forensically righteous (justification), and the righteousness of Jesus Christ (Romans 5:19) imputed to them (Romans 4:1-11)?

If so, you are mishandling the Scriptures (2 Peter 3:16).

Salvation has been provided for everyone, Hebrews 2:9. As far as God is concerned Jesus has victoriously defeated sin, death and the devil and now sits in heaven as "The King of Kings and the Lord of Lords" Revelation 19:16. However, nothing is ours until it is received by faith.

You have ALREADY been reconciled unto God by Jesus Christ.

But that ain't what it says. Good examples of quoting vss. out-of-context trying to make them say what they do not say.
To whom was Col 1:20-22 addressed? Was it to all mankind? Nope! That "you" and "your" in vss. 20-22 referred only to "the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse" vs. 1:2 not all mankind.

Colossians 1:1-3
(1) Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother,
(2) To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
(3) We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,
Jesus now sits in heaven in your name and on your behalf, presenting to God the Father his righteousness on your behalf, "Presenting you Holy and unblameable and unreprovable in his sight".

The same error in 2 Corinthians

2 Corinthians 5:17-19
(17) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
(18) And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
(19) To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
"Us" in vs. 18 is not all mankind but "if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature:" vs. 17.

In the Gospel Jesus Christ takes upon himself our sinful humanity and puts it to death, Romans 6:6. In his resurrection he brings forth a new humanity, 2 Corinthians 5:17. Jesus Christ is God's creation, and we are new creations in Jesus Christ.

If all mankind has "ALREADY been reconciled unto God by Jesus Christ" in Col 1:20-22 as you said above, why is Paul in 2 Cor 5:20 saying "be ye reconciled unto God?"

"Provided" and "applied" are two different things.

Reconciliation is not yours until it is applied by faith, so you have not been reconciled until you believe.

The city has provided sandbags in the school parking lot for protection against the flood.
If you do not apply the sand bags to your property, you are not protected from the flood and will suffer property damage.

"Providing" the sandbags does not mean one is protected from the flood.
They must be "applied" in order for one to be protected from the flood.
The protection of the sandbags does not even exist for one apart from their application.

A declaration of the provision of sandbags for the flood alters absolutely nothing for the one who does not use them. . .for all practical purposes, they don't even exist as far as they are concerned.

Like I said before, "Nothing is ours until it is received by faith". To be saved one must embrace Christ and his Gospel as their only means of salvation.

Then it is incorrect to tell everyone, "You have already been reconciled to God by Christ."

They (everyone) have not.

I have heard/read it explained this way. A man wanted to go on an ocean cruise but he was not wealthy. He worked and saved his money until he could afford the cheapest fare. On the day of the cruise he took as much food as he could carry but it was not long until his food ran out. He held on as long as he could, finally he went to the dining area and told the man in charge that he was hungry and would work for food. The dining room man said let me see your ticket. He looked at the ticket and said this ticket entitles you to all meals served on board.

Salvation has ALREADY been provided for EVERYONE, Hebrews 2:9. The law has been fulfilled and abolished. All sin has been atoned for. The only thing that is required for salvation is faith. All that have faith in Jesus and his Gospel have entered into eternal life. It is important to tell the lost that God has ALREADY extended his hand of reconciliation to them and that they can be saved and forgiven by accepting his offer of reconciliation that has been provided by Jesus Christ. If they reject the offer of reconciliation, they are lost.

Right. Salvation is a free gift from God, but it is not ours if we don't receive it.

Agreed.

In a sense, I don't think anyone is COMPLETELY reconciled to God.
And frankly, God isn't reconciled to me either. I have questions.

Lots of reconciliation work to be done.

Just to be clear, the reconciliation work, doctrinally speaking, is already complete. (done deal)
We just need to complete the process.

That is my question as well. Faith without works is dead.
James 2:17-18
(17) Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
(18) Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
James 2:20
(20) But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
James 2:22
(22) Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
James 2:24
(24) Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
James 2:26
(26) For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

My family likes to put this principle like this: "We do so because it IS so!"
Are all family members satisfied with the discussion being shut down that way?
(I apologize for the assumption, but remember the situation... growing up "Christian")
No questions allowed. Questions are for unbelievers.
