"Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready." (Revelation 19:7)
One way to read the Bible is to read it as the story of God's romance with His people; countless times, God professes His jealous love for His people, always reaching out for us, always wanting intimacy with us. In modern terms, we talk extensively about building a relationship with God. Joel & Hosea are books dedicated to God crying out for His lover to come back, Christ is repeatedly said to be the bridegroom with the Church as His bride, Song of Songs is erotic love poetry in the heart of the Old Testament...it's very clear that God loves His people, so much that He sent us His only son, so that all who believe in Him may not perish, but instead be granted eternal life.
God's Spirit is mentioned in the 2nd verse of the Bible, already residing over the barren wasteland before God even begins Creation. He constantly calls for His lover, even coming down physically to be with us, pouring out His blood for us, with such an intense love that even His awful Passion was something He could do voluntarily for us!
And what lover could do all this, and while being united in spirit to his beloved, what lover wouldn't long to be physically united with His beloved? How could you love someone so intensely, and not want to touch them, be physically intimate with them?
Long-term relationships are hard; no matter how much you can still talk with your beloved, however much you can send pictures & gifts, how strongly you desire to be able to hold them, hug them, interact in a physical manner!
If this human love is a reflection of God's love (imperfect as it may be), then why would God's love allow Him to only be physical with us for 33 years? Why wouldn't He set up something, where He can come down to His beloved time & time again, for a physical manifestation of the intimacy He longs for?
It's been said that every human act of love eventually leads up to God's love; we can say "Hi", we can hug, hold hands, kiss, and in the ultimate act of love, give yourself physically & entirely to your beloved! Of course God would want to be physical with us, too, in an even more complete & life-giving way that human's greatest act of love!
Catholics, please remember the magnitude of what you're doing when you stand in line to receive Communion; cross yourself in reverence while waiting to receive Him who created you, open yourself to His will as you accept Him, and never cease to be amazed at God's magnificent humility, coming to us in the form of a lousy cracker & some watered-down wine.

Eucharist is reminder of God's love, call to unity, pope says
The Eucharist is something that means a lot to me, something that's meant a lot to every saint; more martyrs than we can imagine have lost their life in this world over this mystical coming of God into man. It's confused & confounded people since the beginning, and many of Jesus' followers leave Him because of it in John 6. Yet the Eucharist is still strong, one of our strongest weapons against the devil, and perhaps the most profound way that God pours His spirit into us.
"I am speaking as to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I am saying. The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf." --1 Corinthians 10
