We are not members of the body of Christ because we are the elect prior to inclusion. The elect are those who are in Christ, and the non-elect are those who are not in Christ.

Paul referred to the believers in Israel as (the elect). He also revealed that the "rest" of unbelieving Israel (the non-elect) could still be grafted into the tree of salvation if they did not continue in their unbelief.

• Romans 11:23 (ESV) And even they, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God has the power to graft them in again.
