The first Democratic debate is in June, with additional debates almost every month.
Biden must decide, and said that he would before the end of March. The senator from Ohio (brown?) and Bloomberg will decide in March, but need to see what Biden will do.
If anyone cares by the end of March, Sanders may or may not have decided by then.
==========
The early debates will take place on two consecutive days, with qualified candidates drawing lots to see on which day they will debate. Qualification can come by poll numbers (as in 2016) or by rising a certain amount of money from small donors in at least 20 states.
==========
Personally, I see the Democrats choosing someone from the left, and losing badly. This could be to Trump.
My sneaky suspicion is that Trump will announce in January that he isn't running for re-election. Trump has done all that he wanted to do. Four more years may seem to be a long, long haul, especially with the Democrats likely to continue to hold the majority of the House.
An announcement in January (or even a month or two later) gives the alternative candidates plenty of time to debate before each of the primaries. The following are likely to be ready: Weld, Kasich, Haley, Cruz and Rubio. Unless there is a major recession, I don't see any of these candidates losing to a leftist Democrat. They might lose to Biden, Klobuschar or Brown.
