People talk about the 'day of the Lord' in Joel. Yet we are told that Joel was written almost 3,000 years ago. There was 'a day of the Lord' that took place when Babylon conquered Jerusalem. Even when they were working on the temple mount they found arrowhead from that invasion around 500 bc. Also there was a 'day of the Lord' in 70 AD when the temple was destroyed and Jerusalem was scattered to the nations. If this is not enough there is talk about a future day of the Lord that has not happened yet. That can not happen until the end of the final harvest. As the Good New of Jesus is going to be taken to the ends of the world one more time for this generation. Even there are people that say this will be the greatest time to be alive as this is going to be the greatest move of the Holy Spirit during this dispensation.

One thing I wonder about is all the isolated events that if you are living there at the time would seem a whole lot like the day of the Lord for them. Recently Paradise California was destroyed. Was that not the day of the Lord if you lived in Paradise? Sometimes disaster is very close but somehow they get though it. Like the Oroville Dam Crisis that came so close to disaster but was avoided when they managed to repair enough of the damage to keep the dam from breaking.

Perhaps this is why we are told that there are archetypes in the Bible and when a pattern is established this can be repeated at different times and different places. Joel is the first to talk about this day of the Lord, even if the event did not happen for 500 years. So is there going to be a day when the entire world will be destoryed. Or is the day of the Lord just an isolated event that could strike anyone, anywhere, anytime.

It's a day where God obliterates nations. It happens many times.

"So is there going to be a day when the entire world will be destroyed." - No. This occurs over many 'day of the Lord' events.

"Or is the day of the Lord just an isolated event that could strike anyone, anywhere, anytime." - I expect this will take the form of a series of nuclear wars.

I guess it is hard to wrap your mind around the concept of world destruction. If you can believe the entire world was destroyed in a flood, then maybe it would be easier to imagine. I know a lot of Christians that do not believe that the flood of Noah's day was a world wide event. But there are documentaries about the fossil record that show that it was. That was terrible what happened in Paradise California, but that was just a "barrel fire" compared to what the Bible says the Day of The Lord will be.

Have you seen the movie 2012? If you have not seen it, you should. It is, imho ,a mild portrayal of world destruction. I think The Day of The Lord will be many, many times worse. Here is a clip from the movie showing all disaster scenes. My problem with the movie is it shows the world being destroyed by water. It won't be water, but fire next time.

in studying prophecy one should note the details that are given and isolate many of the specifics as you can. In Joel there is a time what all nations will be destroyed in the valley of Jehoshaphat. This happens at a time when Israel has been gathered back from all the nations and results with a time when the alien will never pass through Israel again. This passage is future and describes what happens at the 2nd coming when Jesus treads the winepress in the day of vengeance of God. Look at Zech 14 we see many more details of this same day. The LORD comes with his saints and melts his enemies and then the LORD is king over all the earth. All of these 2nd coming prophecies have Israel being converted as Jesus is revealed as the LORD and it is the Joseph revealing himself to his brothers moment. Jesus had a key prophecy about what He would do in Luke 1 and this is all accomplished in the future.

67 Now his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying:
68 “Blessed is the Lord God of Israel,
For He has visited and redeemed His people,
69 And has raised up a horn of salvation for us
In the house of His servant David,
70 As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets,
Who have been since the world began,
71 That we should be saved from our enemies
And from the hand of all who hate us,
72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers
And to remember His holy covenant,
73 The oath which He swore to our father Abraham:
74 To grant us that we,
Being delivered from the hand of our enemies,
    Might serve Him without fear,
75 In holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life.

This in Joel and Zech 14 and elsewhere is when the deliverance is to take place at the 2nd coming of Jesus and Israel will be holy because they will believe in Jesus who will reign in jerusalem for 1000 years. This is glorious.

Right now the current belief is that the Garden of Eden is under the Persian Gulf. The Bible does not really say the whole Earth was flooded and Science clearly shows that Noah's flood covered Noah's world and not the whole earth. I have studied Science and Ancient History for well over 50 years now. I have done a lot of research on this.

So what does science say will happen to our world?
Do you believe the 'climate changers'? Will we submerge under the waves and die from too much CO2?
No; these scare tactics are promoted by those with the agenda of controlling the world.

But we who do read what God has told us He will do, should know what He has planned for our future.
Currently; Enemies Occupy the Holy Land:
Isaiah 66:5-6 Hear the Word of the Lord, you who revere His Name and keep His commandments. Those scoffers who say: Where is the Lord? When will your so-called God do anything? They will be shocked, for with a great noise His retribution will fall upon them. 2 Peter 3:3-10

Isaiah 63:18 Why have ungodly people trespassed on Your holy place? Why do enemies trample the holy Land? Psalms 37:10-11, Jeremiah 6:12

Jeremiah 12:8-17 Is this Land of Mine a hyena’s lair? The birds of prey and the wild beasts have taken My holy Land over, they ravage it and trample it down, making it a desolation, to My sorrow. The Lord says: I shall uproot all those evil neighbours who have encroached onto the Land that I allotted to My people. Judah too: I shall uproot, but if any of them learn the right ways of My people, then they can join and live again in the holy Land. My sword of punishment will devour the Land from end to end, no living thing will remain there. Hosea 4:3, Ezekiel 21:1-7, Isaiah 6:11-13

Psalms 7:12-16 The enemy prepares his weapons again, but it is against himself that he has made ready his deadly shafts, tipped with fire. They are all in collusion with iniquity and sinfulness, their plans for violence and terror will fall upon their own heads. Joel 3:4

Psalms 68:1-3 May God arise and His enemies be scattered. He will disperse them like smoke. His fire will melt them like wax and they will perish in the heat of His wrath, but the righteous will be joyful, as they exult in the triumph of their God.

Isaiah 29:5-6 Suddenly, all in an instant, punishment will come from God Almighty with thunder, earthquakes and a great noise, with storm tempest and flames of devouring fire. The horde of your enemies will crumble into dust, that multitude of ruthless foes will scatter like chaff. Zephaniah 3:8, Isaiah 66:15-16, Revelation 6:12-17

Micah 5:7-15 All the remnant of the descendants of Jacob, now dispersed among the nations, [the lost House of Israel] will become like dew from the Lord, they will look only to Him who saves them. Their enemy’s will be destroyed, but on that Day their military power will be lost, all the occult followers will die and any things of idol worship will be gone. Amos 9:10 In anger and fury the Lord will wreak vengeance on all the peoples who disobey Him. Isaiah 66:15-17

Zechariah 8:11-13 The Lord says: I do not feel the same now toward the remnant of My people, as I did in former days. Hosea 11:8-11 Now I shall save you and bless you, you will work the Land in safety, the sky will give rain and the soil will yield abundant produce. Ezekiel 36:8, Joel 2:23-27, Amos 9:13-15, Jer. 30:18-22 Ref: REB abridged and paraphrased.

Birds of prey and wild beasts have taken over My Land… and the evil neighbors… These are metaphors for the ungodly peoples who are now living in all of the holy Land.

The enemies deadly shafts, tipped with fire – an ancient description for a modern weapon: a nuke tipped missile. It is against themselves they have prepared their weapons and they will fall onto their own heads. All the weapons ready to fire at Israel will explode on the launch pad or in their bunkers. Suddenly, in an instant, punishment will come in the heat of the Lord’s wrath, causing earthquakes with flames of fire that will burn His enemies to ashes. As described here and throughout the Bible, this will be a huge coronal mass ejection sun explosion that will fulfill all the graphic prophecies about the Lord’s judgement by fire. Isaiah 30:25-28, Malachi 4:1 & 3

But the punishment by exile of the Lord’s people, now every faithful Christian person, will be completed and the Lord will save and bless them. They will go to their inheritance, all that area promised to Abraham, Galatians 3:26-29, cleansed from end to end by this terrible devastation by fire. Many prophecies tell about the great second Exodus of the Christian Israelites to the holy Land, where they will work the Land in safety, being a light to the nations, all as originally meant for them. They will send out 144,000 missionaries to tell the world the Gospel of the coming Kingdom of Jesus.

Based on Matthew 25:1-13, and Matthew 25:31-46, and 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10, there will be no second chances, at His Second Coming.

OH! The big I! Did the Bible have to use the word "whole"? It said the earth was destroyed.
2Pet.3:6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

    I believe the Bible.

What scriptures can you point to that speak of the 70 AD Day of Lord as being a different Day of the Lord from the proposed "future to us" day of the Lord?

This is in Matthew ch 24 when Jesus is asked two questions when will the temple in Jerusalem be tore down and when will He return. One is a shadow and a type of the other and He talks about both events at the same time.

I believe the Bible 100%. I also believe Science and History because God gives us both. By this I mean the physical evidence that God gives us to study. We are told in Daniel 12:4 "Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book, until the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.” This indicates that we have more knowledge and this is going to give us a better understanding of what we read in our Bible. For example we read about: "Now a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it branched into four headwaters" (Genesis2:10) Today we have Google photo taken with a camera on a space satellite. So we can study the "four headwaters" to see where Eden was. This gives us more information then what we had before the satellites were launched into space. I could go on about all the information available to us today that they did not have even 100 years ago. Also Bishop Usshers book is very valuable. He did a lot of research in his day with what was available to him. So we can learn a lot from him. We have archaeology in the Middle East to study. We have Botany to study and what science can tell us about the domestication of the plants and animals we read about in our Bible. We have a wealth of information available to us today that helps us to understand the story we receive from Moses.

All of the information we have makes it abundantly clear that the Bible is very near to 100% accurate and true in the original language. We still have translation and interpretation issues. For me I have been learning the Hebrew language to see for myself what the Bible really says. Because the Hebrew language is very exact and very precise with no error.

The Bible uses the word ALL. There are two words used: "Erets" & "Adamah". Adamah means the ground that Adam came from. This is the area between the Tigris and Euphrates river. No one crossed the river until Abraham. He was the first. Hebrew means to cross over the river into a new world or a new land. Just as the Hebrew children wondered in the wilderness for 40 years before they would cross over the Jordan river into the promised land.

If you click on the links you can study all of the passages that use the word Adamah and all the passages that use the word Erets. אֲדָמָה (Erets) הָאָ֑רֶץ (Adamah) In the Hebrew. The first letter used in a Hebrew word is the most important letter to establish all the letters that follows. The first time God uses a word in the Bible is very important for the meaning of that word.

    Hebrew Concordance: hā·’ā·reṣ -- 934 Occurrences

    Strong's Hebrew: 127. אֲדָמָה (adamah) -- ground, land

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1

"Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth and no plant had yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground," Genesis 2:5

I had a dream almost 50 years ago where I saw the bottomless pit. I was falling in the bottomless pit. Now almost 50 years later it has been shown to me what I saw was a volcano. What I saw was the physical, I did not see into the Spiritual. When a volcano erupts there is a lot of smoke that blocks the light from the Sun. Just like we read about in the Bible in some of the passages having to do with the day of the lord. One of the most profound archaeology finds was the ancient city of Pompeii when it was buried by a volcano eruption. Rev 9:2 talks about an event that is both physical that everyone can see. Also spiritual that can only be seen in the spiritual realm. These are the kind of images that are associated with the day of the Lord, the day of His Wrath. For those who reject God's offer of Salvation.

The star opened the pit of the Abyss, and smoke rose out of it like the smoke of a great furnace, and the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke from the pit. (Rev 9:2"

Science tells us that there have been 6 extinctions where 90% of life was destroyed and 10% remained to repopulate the world. The most recent was 12,990 years ago when the saber tooth tigers and wholly mammoths went extinct. I establish the date using the nano-diamond comet. Of course to science 13,000 years do not amount to much. If 90% of mankind was to be killed in a nuclear war that would be a part of the extinction event that began with the global warming that began when the last ice age came to an end. I actually have a plaster saber tooth tiger skull. It was out in the shed and the cats attacked it and broke it. One of these days I am going to glue it back together again.

This has happened in the past. Logically and more to the point of this forum; Biblically - it will happen again. As I show in #7 and in many other posts of mine.
They are pretty much ignored and glossed over as people just can't handle the idea of them being around when such a dramatic event occurs.

Catastrophic events happen to people almost every day. Seldom do people seem to be ready. Although there are people in flordia that have homes that can handle up to 120 mph winds. They seem to be better prepared for what they can expect there with wind and water surges.

Do you think the passage from Zechariah proves Christ wrong in Matthew 25:1-13?

Does it prove Paul wrong in 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10?

Or, could your interpretation of the passage from Zechariah be the problem?

How is it even remotely possible to misinterpret Zechariah 14? Either one believes what the text plainly states, that there will be survivors from among the nations that came against Jerusalem, or one doesn't believe what the text plainly states. In order for Zechariah 14:16-19 to even be fulfilled, it requires that all nations have already came against Jerusalem, and that the LORD God has already come, and all the saints with Him, and that verse 12 has been fulfilled. Clearly none of these things have been fulfilled yet, which obviously means Zechariah 14:16-19 is meaning post the 2nd coming.
