“Anyone who listens to the Word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.” (James 1:23-24)

DISOBEDIENCE greatly increases confusion. But OBEDIENCE brings clarity — and takes our lives out of the abstract and the hypothetical — and brings it into the REAL – and we begin to see who we really are — the free, Christ-like ones we were meant to be.

“But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it — he will be blessed in what he does.” (James 1:25)

I agree, and it also helps us to see what we need to work on, so we can be more obedient.

Agreed. That's why it's so important to know the Word of God and to be sensitive to the conviction of the Holy Spirit.

The Lord used that scripture on me a few times the day you posted it. He is telling me to meditate on His word more often. I am not spending the time with Him that I should, although I am trying to change that. Married life has introduced some challenges into that as well.

The Lord is my life and His word is my guideline which tells my mind what to think and how to behave, but it is the little foxes that spoil the vine. Those little compromises give ground for the enemy to plant his wicked seeds of discouragement, confusion and sin. On a long journey, getting off a few degrees from where you are heading creates a large deviation the further you travel.

Repentance is the only solution. The pressures and distractions are unrelenting at times, but I find that I can bear them, and even thrive, if I give Him the firstfruits of my time. If I open myself to say no to my entertainment and pleasures and ask the Spirit to guide me in what I should be doing. He is faithful to lead me back and restore me.

Amen! Well said! :)
