Today, after put solemn Mass, a nice family that was visiting asked me if I would give the "Blessing of a Woman after Childbirth" from the traditional (1962) Roman Ritual- also know as "the churching of women". Read the Catholic Encyclopedia article about it here. CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Churching of Women

The blessing harks back to the biblical tradition of a woman needing to be ritually "purified" after childbirth- a tradition observed by the Blessed Virgin Mary herself...

This is still done in the Churches of the Byzantine Rite - both Catholic and Orthodox

I have been present in both EC and EO Churches when it was done - the baby is also 'Churched' too.

In parishes that utilise the Tridentine rite or Traditional Latin Mass exclusively, such parishes tend to utilise or embrace the "Churching of Women".
