Yes, we die to sin and rise to righteousness, now putting to death the sins of the flesh. Rom 8:12-13

Yes and no...

I think one can extend this truth too far.

In verse 5 the reference to being in the likeness of His resurrection seems to be future.

Personally I see this as a process that begins in this life and is completed as we are resurrected.

Likewise being released from slavery to sin is a process.

Hello Michael, a choice to make each day, would agree especially when it comes to believers in Christ Jesus. Dying with Him in his death in baptism, and being risen again by the spirit in likeness of his very own resurrection.

It seems very liberal and freeing to come to know as your
identity is Christ Jesus in and through you by the spirit given from the Lord Jesus Christ from the Father.

I think one can extend this truth too far.

In verse 5 the reference to being in the likeness of His resurrection seems to be future.

Personally I see this as a process that begins in this life and is completed as we are resurrected.

Likewise being released from slavery to sin is a process.

From the scripture your view point seems to indicate that only being resurrected in his likeness is future. Would agree with you on your viewpoint as eventually when me or you die, we will be resurrected in a new spiritual body (at-least) according to my own view.

Though this scripture is talking to the saints at Rome -> Indicated, by what the bible is interjecting is that as believers we die in the baptism - in Christ Jesus -> being rose again in likeness of his own resurrection -> us as believers walking in newless of life by the spirit. By Christ Jesus being there with us, as our identity.

Would say that it probably is not commonly made know the preciousness of the Lord Jesus Christ - with-in us.

A scripture according in Galatians 2:20 speaks about this nature of Christ living with-in us. Is that not amazing to know - Christ Jesus lives with-in believers now today. Our old life - old man - is crucified with Christ - being raised again just as Christ Jesus was resurrected from the grave. We are raised again if we are baptized in His death. Spiritually.

Anything 'good' that we do as believers comes from Christ Jesus by the spirit with-in us, as believers who trust in God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

A chip off of the old block is someone who is in the likeness of their father because they have the same character or nature, and this is the sense that Jesus is the Son of God because the Son is the exact expression of God's nature (Hebrew 1:3), which he expressed through living in obedience to the Mosaic Law, so that is how we are in his likeness when we partaking in the divine nature. Yes the realisation of Christ within is accepted theologically but start to talk about how you experience it and you are quickly reminded that faith is much more important than feelings or experience.

So we end up with a theological structure that has a form of godliness but can deny the power of God in our lives...

Two paths of answers, man's or God's per His Word:

1. Man's = endless philosophizing about Christ's resurrection applied per man's religious ideas, just about anything man can come up with that 'sounds' religious. That doesn't reveal the real Truth per God's Word though.

2. God's = in the resurrection, we are done, finished, with these flesh bodies of corruption, a shell destined to perish, and our real person inside, our spirit, is raised to a spiritual body that will not see corruption, won't die, won't feel pain, nor hot or cold, but is eternal in the heavens, like Apostle Paul said (2 Corinthians 5).

After Jesus said he came to fulfill the law in Matthew 5, he proceeded to fulfill it six times throughout the rest of the chapter by teaching how to correctly obey it or by completing our understanding of it. In Galatians 5:14, loving our neighbor fulfills the entire law, so it refers to something that countless people have done, not to something unique that only Jesus did. In Galatians 6:2, bearing one another's burdens fulfills the Law of Christ, so you should interpret that in the same way as you interpret fulfilling the Law of Moses.

Whenever you stop at a stoplight, you are fulfilling that traffic law by correctly doing what it requires of you. Likewise, when a husband loves his wife in sickness and in health he is fulfilling his marriage vows by correctly doing the things that he vowed to do. All of the laws that God has given are examples of what it means to love God and our neighbor, so love fulfills the Mosaic Law because it is showing a full understanding of what it is essentially about how to do. The greatest two commandments at a lot easier said than done, so thankfully God gave us all of the other commandments to paint us a picture of what it means to correctly obey them. Someone who is correctly obeying the greatest two commandments would looks the same as someone who was living in obedience to the Mosaic Law because they would both be following the same example that Jesus set for us to follow. If someone's obedience to the greatest two commandments was not inclusive of obedience to God's other commandments, then they would not be treating them as being the fulfillment of the other commandments.

In Romans 8:4-7, those who walk in the Spirit are contrasted with those who have minds set on the flesh who refuse to submit to the Mosaic Law.

In Matthew 7:23, Jesus said that he would tell those who are works of lawlessness to depart from him because he never knew them, so knowing Christ is the goal of obeying the Mosaic Law.
