Some Christians are hesitant to say this, but it's true.

Hebrews 4:12 - For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

The author of Hebrews here attributes divine and personal qualities to the word. It is alive, active, it divides, it discerns. The point is that God is present in His Word. As we read it or hear it we are hearing God himself. May we handle it, read it, and hear it with diligence and fear!

Since the NT had not yet been assembled, what specific "word" do you think the author was speaking of?

Just double checked... the original text used "logos". That is to say the "image of God".

In Christology, the Logos (Greek: Λόγος, lit. ''Word", "Discourse", or "Reason'') is a name or title of Jesus Christ, seen as the pre-existent second person of the Trinity.

The author of Hebrews tells us what he means in Hebrews 1:1-2. OT revelation found in the prophets and NT revelation found in Jesus Christ.

Image would be the greek eikon. The author of Hebrews uses this word quite a bit. When he says logos, though, he means word.

We get this from John. But Jesus as the Logos is not found in Hebrews.

See the beginning of the Gospel of John, for who the Word of God actually is.

Clue: He isn't a book.

John calls Jesus the word of God. But the author of Hebrews does not. It's not likely that the author of Hebrews is referring to the person of Jesus when he says "the word of God."

Otherwise why would he need to affirm that he is living and active? He would be saying: "Jesus is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart."

Far more likely that "word of God" refers to God's spoken and written word.

If the reference is to text then it would have to be the OT (Septuagint).

The inscripturated word is like the living Word: fully divine and fully human.

Define "inscripturated word" please.

Since the NT had not yet been assembled, what specific "word" do you think the author was speaking of?
Do you think God didn't know what the New Testament was going to be?

Where does the Bible say that the Bible is equal in status and authority with God?
If it's God's Word, then by definition it has His authority.
