I'm
aware that it's an editorial, but while it's on the front page of the CNN Web site (or was this afternoon), I'd be extremely surprised to find an editorial in support of faith there are
or at the Times. You'd have to go to Christian sites to find one. As someone who was agnostic and a part of the secular crowd for years (and trained as a journalist) myself,
I know it's not coincidence, so please don't waste your time or mine on attempts to spin it.
Crazy: Tough cookies. I'm praying for you all the more because obviously, you need it. There's genuine power in Jesus' name and
it's not coincidence.
Zara, on the contrary: Today's secularly-biased, pro-pagan, pro-gay, increasingly anti Jude-Christian crowd is comprised of far more than one man. Our homes/streets/lives are invaded by inappropriate images/language/content on our televisions, in movies, in ads on billboards, on the radio, on the Internet (i.e. in ads at news sites), et cetera daily... and before you toss the tired cliché don't watch/listen to it out, please keep in mind just how integral many of these outlets are to keeping up with news and current events these days.
Next comes the secular, religion-is-for-chumps, science-and-socialism-adoring slant of most educational materials in our public schools and universities. Add to this the steady societal pressure by those seeking to overthrow the church (both within and from without) and you start to get the real picture. We are a people whose backs are to the wall... but He often works his greatest wonders in such situations.
As for President Bush: I'm praying for him, but for all his administration's talk of faith-based initiatives, his support for UNESCO (to the tune of $71 million in H.R. 1950 last month) makes me wonder where his loyalty lies (and would even if his father hadn't pledged allegiance to the U.N.). UNESCO can't wait to encourage kids to worship their Judeo-Christianity-mocking
ark of hope (in which they keep their mockery of the 10 commandments, the "Earth charter") while groups like the
IGLHRC work to make molesting them legal (i.e. by lowering the legal age of consent). UNESCO's also expressed support for Chinese population control programs that included forced abortion. I'd love to think President Bush was simply mislead, but the whole thing feels like a knife in the back of God-fearing America, no matter
who planted it.
Brimshack, praying,
by definition, is asking God to intervene in a matter. Someone saying they'll pray for you is saying they'll ask Him to help you and most Christians (and Jews and Muslims) view it as a very kind, compassionate thing to do. I find the fact that you view it as condescending as telling as it is sad.
