In the Bible it is said "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's" but "No taxation without representation" is nowhere to be found. And it is clearly stated that we have to submit to earthly authorities (Romans 13:1-6).

So, on what Biblical grounds can we justify the American Revolution? Try as you might, you will find none.

And this is not surprising because the so called "Founding Fathers" were not Christians. Some were "Deists" (which was a polite way to say "agnostic") and some were outright atheists, though most avoided saying so openly.

If we had stayed under the King of England, would things have been worse? Probably not. Look at Canada. Is it a bad country? Does everybody hates Canadians the way they hate Americans these days?

And now we have Trump. Trump the blasphemer. Trump the crass quasi-incestuous womanizer. Trump the so called "Christian" who never feels the need to repent.

America was conceived in sin and it has given birth to a monster. That is the justice of God calling us to repentance.

Conceived? Don't agree. Prostituted? Yes. In 1973 the US government sanctioned premeditated murder of human life in the womb.

Then years later sanctioned all sorts of sexual immorality.

And yes our punishment will be a monster the grand equivocator Hillary Clinton.

Yeah Ted does not share your views of the US being the whore of Babylon. Just saying.

When Ted Cruz won the first Primary in Iowa, I was elated. I thought "Good Lord, there are still Christians in America". And then I watched in Horror as the race descended into Trumpish madness.

Then I accepted the punishment and asked the Lord for guidance on what this all meant. And I received a clear answer. In the past, I used to describe myself as a "patriot". No longer. God showed me that this was yet another form of idolatry and that the object of our worship (the so called 'American Constitution") is a love child of the Devil.

Liberals are right on one point. They are indeed the rightful heirs of the Founding Fathers. True, most of these XVIIIth century deist/philosophers would have repudiated most of what Hillary stands for today. But that is not the point. When you start making a step away from God, your descendants will make another, and then another.

If we want to be real disciples of Jesus Christ the Son of God today, we cannot be American patriots. We cannot serve two masters. We are not going to rebel either. Let us not repeat the sin of Jefferson and Washington. We are to obey earthly authorities, be they Caesar or Hillary Clinton or even Donald Trump. But we are not to be their cheerleaders either, just as the early Christians preffered death in the arena rather than burning a grain of incense on the Imperial cult altar.

Look up any biography of Washington, Jefferson, Ben Franklin etc.

The fact that they were able to deceive many Christians among those who signed the early documents does not change a thing. The leaders were corrupt and the deed was a vile sin. Christians do sin, by the way ...

Over 40 years I have studied quite a few biographies of the American founders. The majority of them were members of orthodox Protestant denominations as the link I provided indicated. Those are the facts. How devoted they were to the faith is another matter which neither of us can truly judge nor should we as Christians.

If you take issue with Christians resisting tyranny then why are you Baptist? Should you not be a Roman Catholic? By your reasoning Luther and Calvin should not have broke with the ecclesiastical authorities and remain obedient to their authority.

It was the Protestant reformation which influenced the independent nature of the American colonialism.

If you do come back to us America, please don't bring John Oliver with you, he can stay somewhere else.

We were already heartbroken when you sent back Piers Morgan. Please don't break our hearts again.

People hate the US for many reason, and most aren't valid. Your hatred of my country is unfounded as well. America IS, you can't go back in time and undo it, and God isn't punishing the US 240 years after the fact, with Donald Trump. That is preposterous.

Christ said that we are to resist religious authorities that are unfaithful (the scribes, the pharisees, the Sanhedrin) and it is on those grounds that Luther and the early protestants resisted the Pope.

But he also clearly said, and Paul also, that we are not to rebel against secular authorities ('Caesar'). Otherwise, we are not better than the zealots and their chief representative in the gospels: Barabbas. Who do you want: Jesus or Barabbas?

Finally, it should be noted that "tyranny" is never mentioned in the scripture as a thing we are to rebel against. This word denotes a Greek concept which has nothing to do with the New Testament.

Presenting "facts" in this way is misleading. I do not know if it is on purpose or not.
    • Yes, if you take the whole group of the signatories of the Declaration of Independence and of the Constitution, the majority are "Christians". But the few that are not are precisely those which had the most prominent roles (Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, John Adams, James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, among others)
    • Being "a member of an orthodox Christian denomination does not mean much. Hillary Clinton, for that matter, and Barack Obama are also members of such churches. What does it mean about their "Christianity" ?

Do you think slandering Trump and voting for Hillary will make us a Godly nation? OR that it will make the Church a godly Church?
