Brazil really doesn't have a great relationship with Bolivia.
It's peaceful at the moment...but it is not what they would like.

The border area between the two countries is rather loose. Paraguay is also a neighbor.
I was there along the Pantanal River in Corumba. I went into Bolivia for some supplies. There the place reminds me of Tijuana Mexico...just about anything could be purchased cheaply. The tent markets were endless. Never saw any Bolivian police or military...and we were there for hours.
Bolivians are scrutinized very carefully before allowed entry into Brazil...
The volume of drugs in and around would astound people. The country is very poor by comparison.
Several times the Bolivian nationals have blocked up the road with garbage to protest the Brazilian checkpoints at the border.
The Brazilian military is there to back up the border.

What was very obvious to me is that Bolivia is a very poor country with poor infrastructure and population.
