I think ‘helps’ here is a very superficial notion. These are not healthy inclinations that should be ‘helped’ by clinicians- when there isn’t a cure, the doctor shouldn’t act. I think the impulse to ‘do something’ is more social than medical. There’s a long history of psychiatric treatments ‘helping’ people that are very damaging in the longer term.
So you claim to know more and have better judgement on the matter than people who have devoted their lives to learning and studying this topic.

You qualifications must me outstanding. What are they may I ask?

Seems to me it is most logically explained by the term 'cultural marxism' which was a school of thought created by the Frankfurt School:

The Frankfurt School (German: Frankfurter Schule) is a school of social theory and philosophy associated in part with the Institute for Social Research at the Goethe University Frankfurt. Founded during the interwar period, the School consisted of neo-Marxist dissidents who felt at home in none of the existent capitalist, fascist, or communist systems of the time. Many of these theorists believed that traditional theory could not adequately explain the turbulent and unexpected development of capitalist societies in the twentieth century. Critical of both capitalism and Soviet socialism, their writings pointed to the possibility of an alternative path to social development.[1]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankfurt_School

Basically it is an apologetic for why communism failed in managing (micro managing) economies. The idea is to tear apart social norms and taboos and then a replacement ideology is offered by the state.

Notice how these movements are using governments to craft legislation to make their 'cause' accepted. If it were truly an organic movement, then it would be the opposite as the economy or people would accept the ideology and embrace it, later influencing government to accept the ideology.

It is top down social engineering.

There’s plenty that medicine and psychiatry have got wrong over the years. Just look into it.

That does not answer my question. Plenty of aircraft have crashed over the years. Do you then claim that you know more about aircraft design than a aeronautical engineer?

Please, what are your qualifications that you know more about a subject than people who have spent their lives studying the topic?

I’m not going to get into a silly argument. If you want to understand the issue more, for an extreme view you could start with Peter Breggin and work your way back to the centre from there. The point is that this is an area in which there is no certainty - but there is a tendency to act regardless of the lack of certainty, to just ‘do’ something, often with horrendous consequences for the person involved, who would be better served ultimately with a more reality based approach.

You are claiming the clinical experts are incorrect. I would like to know your qualifications for making this claim. How is that making a silly argument? Do you not know how to assess if a source is reliable?

Correct about what? Correct to remove someone’s genitals because they strongly feel like a woman? Your thinking about this is overly narrow

I am not claiming they are incorrect. Re-read my post. There isn’t any certainty in this area, that isn’t my opinion, it’s just the basic reality of it. Read around if you are interested. There’s a difference in trial and error with an impersonal theory and trial and error involving actual people, and people who are deeply disturbed more so. A person doesn’t need medical qualifications to understand that encouraging people to just ‘go with what they feel’ and even help them in that is self evidently a bad idea.

Tom Farebrother said:
There are regular arguments made that ‘transgender’ people experience high suicide rates because they aren’t accepted.

An argument which, even if true, is irrelevant. Mental health is determined by the ability to adjust socially, both in employment and personal relationships. Even if it is due to an inablility to adjust socially, the point that the high suicide rate indicates that something is wrong with them still stands. A high suicide rate does not point to good mental health. Period. If it did, mental health would have little meaning.

You are claiming the clinical experts are incorrect. I would like to know your qualifications for making this claim.

Sanity.

It appears you are saying the opinion of people who have spent a lifetime studying a subject is insane, but uniformed opinion is sane. Just so you know, this is the opposite of reality. Maybe something Trump would say?

They never mention the suicide rates that are the same after the operations...
Because genital mutilation isn't exactly a viable means of treating mental illness.

Didn't even famous Bruce Jenner say he wanted to revert back to being a man?
Lots of people would put on a dress if they were getting paid what Bruce Jenner is getting paid.

Spending a lifetime studying nonsense never made anyone sane. It just makes people emotionally attached to that nonsense.

How TRANSGENDERS are distinguished from HOMOSEXUALS: The transgendered are recognized by the everyday general public as the opposite sex than that of their body. The homosexual possesses the body of their publicly perceived nature, but undetectable sexual desire for those with the same body.

To be transgendered is not to. 'feel' like the opposite sex, rather, it is 'being' the opposite sex. This condition cannot be hidden like the Gay and Lesbian's sexual desire can be.

Who cares? Seriously. If a man feels more comfortable in his skin as a woman, what business is it of mine? Or yours?
Ringo

If you look into it, it’s not quite so simple for the people involved, particularly for young and vulnerable people. Read some of the ‘trans regret’ stories to get a feel for what the issues are. On the face of it this might seem straightforward, but it isn’t, like several other issues of this kind.

I will grant that what makes them feel more comfortable is their business, if they will grant that their exceptionally high suicide rate is their business.

It's almost like these high suicide rates are due to people telling them that they're not "normal" and need to repress their true feelings.
