Every country has Thanksgiving on different days and usually different origins. In the US, it celebrates the early immigrants to this country surviving and making peace with the natives. Our Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November, the 28 this year. Our family has a lot to be thankful for this year!

i think americans celebrate thanksgiving to give thanks for having survived. originally. now you just celebrate whatever you're thankful about. i would never say it's about having made peace with native americans...no one has made peace with the natives. unless you call vicious attacks and segregation peace. hmmm.

i wouldn't say the pilgrims made peace with the wampanoag.

the wampanoag welcomed the pilgrims with open arms, only later to find that the kindness they showed towards, and the trust they harbored for, these foreigners became their own undoing.

the wampanoag were massacred.
