Why would ANYONE "erase" Helen Adams Keller (Helen Keller) from any history book??!!! She was a "pioneer" in doing the impossible. She was both deaf AND blind and yet went on to be the first deaf-blind person to earn a bachelor of arts degree, amongst other things. Her teacher Johanna Mansfield Sullivan Macy (Anne Sullivan) was instrumental in coaxing and challenging Helen to stretch beyond her perceived boundaries and thus to be such a pioneer.

What WERE they thinking??!!!

WHO would agree to this??!!!

Clinton, sure. She not that important in history. Just some power hungry political human. I do not agree with Keller though. She WAS important. Presidential candidates, or in my opinion most presidents, are not. They are no more special or important that you are. Just more well known (sometimes not for good things either).
Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton are both extremely important from the perspective of Social Science and History.

Despite me hating Sarah Palin, the fact remains that she was a pivotal watermark moment for the Republican party and hence the nation. She was the first female candidate on the GOP presidential ticket.

Thus, it goes without saying the Hillary Clinton likewise is important. It is inconceivable to me that anyone could argue she was not "important". If you were to create a scientific plot of women's rights vs men's rights vs Social Evolution in the US then Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton would both be EXTREMELY IMPORTANT DATA POINTS.

Politics often blinds logic and rationality and there is no doubt that is what is occurring here.

My guess is that someone feels the need to strip women of their accomplishments as a gender? Removing Helen Keller from any history book is such an egregious error I would call it blasphemous.

It is a vital story to show what human beings are capable of. Take the accomplishments of Michael Jordan, Michael Phelps, and Stephen King and add them together and put them up against WHat Helen Keller accomplished and I'd easily argue Helen Keller comes out on top.

To think we are raising a generation of people who will not know Helen Keller's story?

You asked "What were they thinking!!!"

Well, I'll answer you...

They aren't thinking.

My guess is that "someone" feels Helen Keller is a "Liberal" and according to all things Republican, Liberals are soulless godless socialist commies that want to destroy the country. Thus, getting rid of anything Liberal by default must be a good thing.

So there is no thought, just emotion

As for Clinton, I will take your word from it since I never saw people like her so important. I know very little other than those game show like presidential things they had some years ago, that she was the first female presidential candidate to almost win, and that she was married to a president who had sexual affairs. Those are the only things of her I know. I do not know what a GOP is (without looking it up) or left or right other than directions. Just not that much of an impact those people are other than constantly screwing me over, but we do not need that in history books.
I do not like how libs or dems or whatevers keep distorting and using the Bible as they see fit, but facts are facts that Keller did some great things as a bind and deaf writer am sure.
Patrick Stewart may not be a follower of Christ and his soul may end up in hell when he dies, but man he is a great actor. I could be content with him just reading War and Peace with that voice. He will still be in some history books for actors or something later am sure.

Academia shouldn't erase any history - good, bad, or seeming irrelevant.

That peeves me almost as much as religious institutions picking which books adults can read, and dictating the trajectory of another human's soul.

If I understand correctly, Texas merely removed Clinton and Keller from required teaching. It does not prohibit teachers from exercising their own artistic license in how/what they teach their students. Just so long as it's factual.

But since the conservatives in Austin are enforcing "Teach to the Test", it means that teachers disadvantage their students if they spend time on historical figures removed from the official state recognition.
