A Virginia teen was charged with murdering his girlfriend’s parents after they forbid their daughter from seeing her boyfriend, who they believed was a neo-Nazi.

The 17-year-old shot Buckley Kuhn-Fricker, 43, and her husband, Scott, 48, at their Reston home, where family members had gathered to celebrate the Christmas holiday Friday, The Washington Post reported.

The teen then turned the gun on himself but survived and is currently in a hospital in critical condition.

From WaPo article: "her daughter told her over the summer that the boyfriend was very good at history and that her daughter asked, “Did you know that Jews are partly to blame for WWII?”"

Tragic and awful. What a waste to kill those parents. I hope they charge that "boy" as an adult.

"Did you know the Jews are partly to blame for WW2"? Sure they were, sure. Good going, Holocaust deniers. Smart.

This article from ABC News takes a more nuanced approach to whether the teen was actually a Neo-Nazi and makes the mother seem more like an aggressor, trolling his social media accounts and turning the boy into the school for what she found there. Even if that is true, of course, he still murdered them, which is inexcusable and unconscionable, but makes the mother seem less like a noble hero and more like a stalker before she was unjustifiably murdered.

The truth might be one, the other, or somewhere in the middle. Still, there was no call to murder the girl's parents, as I have already said.

Teen allegedly killed girlfriend's parents, who reportedly worried he was a neo-Nazi

Well, this news ruined my day :(

Maybe so. But her parents most likely saved her life by sacrificing their own. He was a ticking timebomb. I would risk sacrificing my own life for my kids too if it had to be.

...Her parents loved her that much.

That's an interesting take on that article. I don't see it painting her as the aggressor at all, and it certainly appears now that her fears were more than justified.

It seems that many things were wrong here. The most heinous and awful: the 17 year old killed two people, a double murder, awful and tragic. He should never live a free life again. That's first.

But second, this ABC article makes it sound like the mother didn't like the bf. She might have been justified in that. But where she went wrong IMO is she alerted the school on what she found on his social media accounts. That's none of her business--her business was the relationship with her daughter. Did she deserve death for it? Not even close. That's not even in the realm of my thinking. But it paints a different picture than the article in the OP.

I think that's a bit too much, considering that he's only 17. I don't think it would be impossible to resocialise him.

Also, the cost of keeping him in Prison for 60+ years is staggering.

If he had a murderous mind, the positive here is that she triggered him prematurely upon herself, thus saving her daughters future life.
Could be she had a feeling he was that dangerous, and did everything in her power to expose it, both to the school, and to the world.

That's a good perspective. I hadn't thought about it like that....thanks.

You don't really believe that, do you?

You're not really surprised that neo-nazism, White Supremacy, and bigotry is on the rise these days, are you?

Paradise on earth will never be realized. Never has, never will. Over and over, on and on. No politics will ever achieve it.

True, but...

1: it's not going to stop people from trying.
2: it's not going to stop opportunistic weasels from promising it in order to gain political power.
3: it's not going to stop the young and impressionable from falling for it.

So a young man, under the belief that America is suffering and on the decline, is told by a group of people that his fears are not unfounded or exaggerated, but in fact, the fault of certain groups of "others," who, not coincidentally, are easily recognized by physical features such as skin color...

...it's not all that unthinkable that such a young man could be duped into thinking that by... ahem, "dealing with" such people, he could make America "great" again...

No...why?

Then if I believed that he believed that there was some appeal to neo-nazism, why would that be so surprising?

Nazis don't shanghai new recruits and toss them into a van... they find volunteers who subscribe to their ideology. Clearly they found one here.

That's not what you said...you said his beliefs were possibly the random result of a coin flip.

Right...and I'm curious about why.

unless you're willing to take these people out of their limited environments and away from their parents that they learned this behavior from don't expect this sort of thing to change.

You are advocating the state forcibly separate families, forcibly separate children from their parents, because the parents may hold views you disagree with?

Right...and I'm curious about why.

there is no point in speculating until he has a psych eval if he ever get's one.
right now reasons can be that the sky was the wrong shade of blue or that his parents molested him.

i'm not advocating anything of the sort as to how you phrased it.
but are you being facetious?
child protective services remove children from at risk homes all the time.

Right...for his individual case...however try as I might, I can't find any serious studies on the issue. Wonder why.

I've never heard of CPS taking a child from a home because of the beliefs they were taught...I think that would be new ground.
