So which countries do you predict the rich ppl would flee to? Most of Europe has higher tax rates than the U.S.

Gilligan's Island might have some vacancies. After all, they already have a millionaire and a movie star. :)

people move to Florida for retirement & they're tired of snow & cold

not from NY but we do get snow
one retired neighbor of ours moved to Fl two yrs ago &
another neighbor in her 60s moving to Fl next year

why? both said they're tired of cold & snow
ONLY reason according to them

nice to visit but wouldn't want to live there

I sold a place in central Wisconsin to a couple from southern Indiana. They said they would rather have 3 months of snow than months of sleet.

The U.S. already figured this tax thing out. The Facebook founder (a billionaire) didn't like his taxes, so he left to Singapore, and in response the IRS passed a bunch of ridiculous tax laws, requiring expats to file with the U.S. every year, even if you didn't earn a single U.S. dollar or even set foot in the U.S. that year. And if the other country's tax rate is lower, the IRS will tax you on the balance of those 100% foreign earnings. Just because you are a U.S. citizen.

So the rich then renounce their citizenship, right? Nope. The U.S. passed the most restrictive requirements to renounce your citizenship in the world. First, you have to attain citizenship elsewhere. Second, you have to pay tax penalties on all your 401k's, IRA's and the like for early withdrawal. Third, you have to pay $5000 to the U.S., in addition to whatever you pay your lawyers. And fourth, the whole process takes ANOTHER 5 years--AFTER you attained your citizenship elsewhere, which probably took 5 years to begin with.

A big, giant Iron Curtain the U.S. has set up. Once you're in, there is no getting out.

But that's the only way conservatives can win these days considering the failure of practically every economic policy they manage to enact.
There's also gerrymandering, intimidating minority voters, and pandering to states where no one wants to live.

I say, 'Good riddance and they shouldn't let the door hit them on the way out". I don't feel any need to pander to them like they are little demi-gods.

They are just money-grubbing misers who use up human beings and toss them out like machinery. There isn't enough money on the planet to make them happy enough pay a living wage to ordinary people.

Your mileage may well differ.
Based on the article, a lot of them are just older people retiring to some place with better weather.

Notice that CA, for example, which is infested with SOCIALISM! if you believe the scare-mongering from RNC talking points is still net gaining population. Feels like an article which cherry-picked a fact or to and then went off on a wild tangent which, while unrelated to the facts, resonated with what their audience wished were true.

A booming economy that started growing exponentially AFTER Obama's regulations and taxing were removed?

Sorry, but both the thread and this forum in particular are about American politics. If you want to talk about somewhere else, might want to find the correct place to post about it.

This seems to be leaving a very significant part of the population out. What about the white guys?
It's the economic version of the "I can't be racist, look at my black friend" fallacy. Kinda weird someone would bring it up in a thread unrelated to questions of racist motivations in some GOP politicians, though - guilty conscience? Or maybe just uncritically repeating far-right talking points.

Mexico?

Oh but then they'd have to pay for the wall, and that's got to be expensive.

Do some checking, States with low or no state taxes are, for the most part growing, while high tax states are not.

Dallas/Ft Wirth is booming. Why? A person making 100,000 a year is saving 13,000 over NY

I moved from NY to OK, ITV was a lateral move and my take home went up 15%. What I paid in real estate taxes in NY for a 1,300 square foot home in 2 months equal what I pay yearly for a 2,700 sq ft home in Tulsa

I did some checking. I do not see this reflected in the numbers.

Fastest growing state, Idaho. Income tax at 7% and higher.
Second, Utah. Income tax at 5%.
Third is my own state, Washington. No income tax.
Fourth, Nevada. Again no income tax.
Arizona 3% - 5%
Texas - 0%
Oregon - 5% - 10%

A List of State Income Tax Rates

Best I can tell there is really no correlation between tax and growth rate. Do you have a study that someone has done linking tax rates to movement?

just like if democrats try to make the US a socialist country. the rich will leave.
The rich can leave. It’s not like they can take the resources of our great country with them. It simply opens up opportunities for others to profit from consumer demand, which will remain if the handful of very wealthy people leave.

Do you think the government should control the economic system by eliminating private capital, like the big banks, nationalize industry and eliminate private property?

I think that some industries should be publicly owned (healthcare, energy/ utilities, education, harvesting of national resources), that we need major banking reform that would include a move away from big banks to community banks and credit unions, and like every Marxist I know, I want to preserve private property.

I didn’t read your article. I’m well educated on a variety of Marxist economic philosophies.

Look! It's sinister conspiracy! People who want universal healthcare and other social safety net programs, people who want the government to subsidize green energy rather than subsidizing the fossil fuel industry are being hoodwinked!

It's the same old "slippery slope" rant--if we let the government give money to lazy poor people pretty soon we won't even own our own underwear.

Economies are a lot more fragile than you think. Ripping everything apart as in destroying it to create a different way of life, devastates people's lives. History proves it. Hitler came to power because of the great depression, which is what the GND would create. It depends on invention of fabulous new technologies that don't exist, and when that all fails to occur, the fallout will be worldwide, like a 3rd world at war.
