That doesn't apply to things like rocks and that, does it, since they are not alive. So embedded age doesn't really work if you use that definition.

And of course, you cherry pick the definition you want from that list. What about the definition immediately after that one? The one that says that age is, "the length of an existence extending from the beginning to any given time."

This will easily apply to any physical object. So age is a measure of how long something has existed for. And thus, embedded age does not work.

Yes, it does matter. To borrow from the title of a famous article by Theodosius Dobzhansky, 'Nothing in astronomy or geology makes sense without deep time.' Everything that we observe in astronomy, from the craters on the planets and satellites, through the stellar populations of star clusters and the structures of galaxies to the anisotropy of the cosmic microwave background, is the product of (or, perhaps better, a stage in) continuous processes with time-scales of millions or billions of years. The history of these objects extends back far beyond human history, and, for some of them, to before the origin of the solar system.

The facts are that the rate of collisions between the inner planets (including the Moon) and near-Earth asteroids (NEAs), or, which comes to the same thing, the rate of destruction of NEAs, show that the craters on the inner planets were formed over periods of thousands of millions of years, and that rates of stellar energy generation and synthesis of 'metals' (elements other than hydrogen and helium) show that the time-scales of stellar evolution are between hundreds of millions and tens of billions of years.

These time-scales are so much longer than the time-scale of recorded human history that it is ridiculous to suggest that planetary craters, white dwarfs and changes in the metallicity of stellar populations can be associated in any way with the Biblical Fall or Flood, or with the time-scale of the creation stories in the book of Genesis.

Craters aren't "formed over time."

They appear instantly when something impacts something.

Or when something sinks into the ground.
