  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

1 Corinthians 2 complete:
1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom
declaring to you the testimony of God.
2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling.
4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom,
but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,
5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
6 However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age,
nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.
7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden which God ordained before the ages
for our glory,
8 which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified
the Lord of glory.
9 But as it is written: Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.
10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes,
the deep things of God.
11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him?
Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God,
that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the
Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness
to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.
16 For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?”
But we have the mind of Christ.

The Orthodox Prayer book also includes a favorite of mine

"8 For behold Thou hast loved truth: the hidden and secret things of thy wisdom hast Thou made manifest unto me."

In David's Psalm of repentance (51)

But it seems to be translated a variety of ways in KJV and NIV; this is probably some version of Douay-Rheims 1899+ in the prayer book (it's listed as Psalm 50), and I've never taken the time to figure out which Psalm Douay-Rheims either excluded or combined with another to get the numbering off.

At any rate, blessings to you

Amen. Psalm 51 is a wonderful prayer.
6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt
make me to know wisdom.
These verses are ones I use as what I call "instant prayers".
Ones I call upon in many situations.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
Also,
15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
18 Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
Thank you for responding, that was a blessing to me!

Also Psalm 85 for a group or nation.

1You showed favor to Your land, O LORD;

You restored Jacob from captivity.2You forgave the iniquity of Your people;

You covered all their sin.

Selah3You withheld all Your fury;

You turned from Your burning anger.4Restore us, O God of our salvation,

and put away Your displeasure toward us.5Will You be angry with us forever?

Will You draw out Your anger to all generations?6Will You not revive us again,

that Your people may rejoice in You?7Show us Your loving devotion, O LORD,

and grant us Your salvation.8I will listen to what God the LORD will say;

for He will surely speak peace to His people and His saints;

He will not let them return to folly.9Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him,

that His glory may dwell in our land.10Loving devotion and faithfulness have joined together;

righteousness and peace have kissed.11Faithfulness sprouts from the earth,

and righteousness looks down from heaven.12The LORD will indeed provide what is good,

and our land will yield its increase.13Righteousness will go before Him

to prepare the way for His steps.

I wonder if that truth is the deep things of God? Maybe the deep things are truth about ourselves and God from within.

From 1 Corinthians 2: (post#2)
God has revealed them to us through His Spirit.
Romans 8:27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit,
because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

The Saints of Christ are His "hidden ones."
Psalm 83:
1
Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God.
2 For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.
3 They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones.

Let us receive this prayer in our hearts.
Ephesians 3:
14
For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened
with might through His Spirit in the inner man
,
17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted
and grounded in love,
18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length
and depth and height
19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with
all the fullness of God.
20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think,
according to the power that works in us,
21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations,
forever and ever. Amen.

All blessings and thanks to all who contributed to this study.
