  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has anyone out htere read any of his Surprised by Truth series?

If you haven't they are books with a dozen or so stories written by poeple who converted to Catholicsm, they are very interesting.

If you're a convert they help to show you that you aren't crazy and if your a "cradle" Catholic it will probably point out things you have never thought of.

Yes i read the first one 4 yrs ago. My hubby and i are actually re-reading it together we just started last week. The first one has stories of 11 converts including Marcus Grodi and Tim Staples. It is one of the books that brought me BACK to the Catholic church after 13 yrs as a Protestant. Excellent book. Excellent conversion stories. I highly recommend it!

I'll have to check these out!! Would you recommend these or Home Sweet Rome? Or both :D

I read the second one, and I enjoyed that as well as Rome Sweet Home, they are slightly different in that in the SBT books each chapter is a different story from a different person. Rome Sweet Home is the story of Scott and Kimberly Hahn with their journey and struggles coming into the Catholic church.

If I had to chose only one of these two books Rome Sweet Home would be my choice each time....it is easy to understand...has examples of teachings and one chapter is by Scott and the next chapter is by Kimberly with her side of the same story Scott just wrote.... so touching and yet powerful. :)
