It's good to keep your culture - even if you don't live in SA. My wife is Afrikaans by birth. But we speak 97% English @ home. However, I want my kids to learn Afrik and keep their culture. My sis - in - law get angry with us. She lives in the US - but they still speak 40% Afrik at home. Says we are selling out. I guess, when you are surrounded by something, you dont have to fight to keep it?

Keep the culture - its a good country that we come from.

Yep I sometimes think I should find some clubs here there must be groups of South Africans here, so I keep speaking Afrik.

I remember when I came to Aus my oldman use to tell me to speak English ... did not impress me at all :)

And yep South Africa is a good country, when I was there I felt at home, did not bother me one bit, people here told me you will be wantign to come back after a week :) after the 3 weeks I wanted to stay :D

I don't know about anyone else, but our [Baptist] church discussed the issue at length several months after the Lotto was started. We came to the conclusion that the Lotto is gambling, and that gambling was wrong, the logical conclusion being that playing the Lotto was a no-no. IIRC it had to do with not placing our trust in God to provide financially.

Anyhow, how many years down the line, and I don't regret stopping when I did. I have a Peace in my heart about it, and that's good enough for me.

Comments?

I agree - Lotto is gambling - and I'd rather trust God. But I'm not so legaistic. School raffles are also gambling in the strictest sense. It's really between you and God. He doesn't say anything clearly in the Bible about Lotto - so I've heard people interpret (misinterpret) the Bible to fit their viewpoint.

We also dont do Lotto - and are blessed because of it. Also dont do casinos or horses. Will put a few rand on the annual July Handicap office draw however. I dont play Lotto - but also dont put a heavy on those that do. I will tell them I think/know it is gambling and dont believe that we should - but again there are other Christians who dont listen to rock music - I haven't been convicted of that and still do.

PE - I go there for work quite often. We have a plant in Deal Party (near Motherwell - on the coast next to the Grahmastown Highway).

I often stay in Summerstrand in a hotel.

Have a really good friend there too. He worships in one of the NCMI churchs there.

I stayed a great deal in Summerstrand. Sometimes at the Paxton Hotel..other times at the Cascades and then I rented a flat next to the Beach Hotel in a building called Great Bandle. After that I stayed in Westering, in a flat attached to my husband's mother's house and rented from her.

Good times hey ? I lived in Cpt for a bit as well. In a burb called Edgemead. I attended UCT in 2000 and when my children just couldn't handle being away from here we moved back to Utah. I had kept my home here as well as the having ahome in Edgemead. A bit weird after six months to come home..take the sheets off and carry on like we never left. Now we always talk about how we shouldn't have left SA.
