Stupid question

Is there a way to get items off my desktop without deleting them into my Recycle Bin? (I use Windows XP) I have so many downloaded music and video files that they are clutterting my desktop, and I want to get them off.

Go into Windows Explorer (My Computer; there should also be a link to it in the Accessories folder), expand or open the C: drive, and create a new folder. Then just move the stuff from your desktop to the folder you just created.

My personal suggestion: use the Folders view. It makes navigating Windows Explorer far less cumbersome. For that matter, I also advocate using the Classic layout for XP instead of the default for precisely the same reason.

just make a folder on your desktop that says unused desktop icons. sometimes windows will automatically ask you to make that folder.

Or you can do it MYYY way
Right click on the desktop
Scroll to: dArrange Icons by >
Now uncheck "Show Desktop Icons"
There ya go, problem solved forever!
