Hey guys, I'm new and not exactly sure if this is the right place to post this, but here it goes.  Last night I had a strange but somewhat cool dream. A group of Christians including me were caught worshiping and were taken to a dock to be drowned. Me and another person tried to escape and were shot. I saw black for a second and then was surrounded by white. I realized I was in Heaven. The cool thing was it was just like Earth except without the sin. It had TVs and stuff like that. We could even come back to Earth and be seen only by other Christians. Is this something God is trying to show me or no, in your oppinion?

We teamed up with Faith Counseling. Can they help you today?

    Welcome Bible Man!

I don't know that much about dreams and their meaning. I don't have strong opinions on how God works through dreams or if He even does. Nevertheless it is a fascinating dream.

Well I would pray to God about it and ask him if it has any meaning. I once had a dream. I didn't have a clue why I had it or if it meant anything but then God spoke to me telling me what the dream meant later on and it made perfect sense. It ended up being an answer to a prayer I had with him. God can talk to us in many different ways. We just need to keep our eyes more open. Most of us don't know how to listen to God very well.

Hmm, dreams are your subconscous mind trying to talk to you.  They contain symbols that communicate ideas you won't understand or won't think about in your waking life.

The Christians worshipping and then being drowned, that sounds like a baptism, which symbolizes death and rebirth through water, and a new spiritual life begins.  Is you mind telling you that you should be baptized?

The scenes in heaven included many communication devices, like TV and coming and going between heaven and earth.  This might symbolize that after baptism, you expect to have a better prayer life (communication with heaven).

The coming back to earth to see other Christians is an acknowledgement that you need to fellowship with other Christians, to learn and pass on what you learn, and such.

So, it seems like your dream is about a desire for a deeper spiritual life.

You know Lamb, you have a very good point.  I have been a Christian for 3 years, but only recently have I decided to...uh what's the phrase am I looking for...go deeper in my faith.  Yeah I'd read the Bible and pray, but I felt like I could deeper.

    Hi Bibleman, cool dream
Looks like God is responding to your prayers about going deeper. Getting closer to and more like Him requires a certain amount of dying to ourselves (or ways, our plans, our will etc  ) which is symbylised by u being shot. I also think that the visiting heaven and earth is God doing a good work in you...kind of like being more heavenly hearted and heavenly minded. Where does Paul talk about set your mind on things above??...u can lok that one up.

This is a great dream and Gods responding to you......just respond back to him and thank him for his hearing u and what he will do in your life...

Definition: The thoughts or mental images of a person during sleep. The Bible refers to natural dreams, dreams from God, and dreams that involve divination.-Job 20:8; Num. 12:6; Zech. 10:2.

Do dreams in our time have special meaning?

What have researchers learned about dreams?

"Everyone dreams," says The World Book Encyclopedia (1984, Vol. 5, p. 279). "Most adults dream for about 100 minutes during eight hours of sleep." So dreams are a normal human experience.

Said Dr. Allan Hobson, of Harvard Medical School: "They are ambiguous stimuli which can be interpreted in any way a therapist is predisposed to. But their meaning is in the eye of the beholder-not in the dream itself." When reporting this, the "Science Times" section of The New York Times added: "Within the school that places great value on dreams, there are many approaches to finding the psychological message of a dream, each reflecting different theoretical outlooks. A Freudian will find one kind of meaning in a dream, while a Jungian will find another, and a Gestalt therapist will find still another meaning. . . . But the view that dreams have psychological meaning at all has come under strong attack from neuroscientists."-July 10, 1984, p. C12.

Can dreams that seem to impart special knowledge come from a source other than God?

Jer. 29:8, 9: "This is what Jehovah of armies . . . has said: 'Let not your prophets who are in among you and your practicers of divination deceive you, and do not you listen to their dreams that they are dreaming. For "it is in falsehood that they are prophesying to you in my name. I have not sent them," is the utterance of Jehovah.'"

Harper's Bible Dictionary informs us: "Babylonians had such trust in dreams that on the eve of important decisions they slept in temples, hoping for counsel. Greeks desiring health instruction slept in shrines of Aesculapius [whose emblem was a serpent], and Romans in temples of Serapis [at times associated with a coiled serpent]. Egyptians prepared elaborate books for dream interpretation."-(New York, 1961), Madeleine Miller and J. Lane Miller, p. 141.

In the past, God used dreams to give warnings, instruction, and prophecy, but is he leading his people in that way now?

References to such dreams originating with God are found at Matthew 2:13, 19, 20; 1 Kings 3:5; Genesis 40:1-8.

Heb. 1:1, 2: "God, who long ago spoke on many occasions and in many ways [including dreams] to our forefathers by means of the prophets, has at the end of these days spoken to us by means of a Son [Jesus Christ, whose teachings are recorded in the Bible]."

1 Cor. 13:8: "Whether there are gifts of prophesying [and at times God conveyed prophecies to his servants by means of dreams], they will be done away with."

2 Tim. 3:16, 17: "All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching . . . that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work."

1 Tim. 4:1: "However, the inspired utterance says definitely that in later periods of time some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading inspired utterances [sometimes conveyed in dreams] and teachings of demons."

Thanks for this input. There are those who rely solely on dreams and insist that all breams come from God. Sorry! But that is CLEARLY NOT the case.
