The Lord loves us as His own children, and His love is greater than a mother's love because even a mother can forget her child, but the Lord never forgets us. And if the Lord Himself had not given the Holy Spirit to the Orthodox people and to our great shepherds, we would not be able to know how much He loves us.
Glory to the Lord and to His great lovingkindness, that he gives to us sinful people the grace of the Holy Spirit. Wealthy people and kings do not know the Lord, but we, beggarly monks and shepherds, know the Lord by the Holy Spirit.
In order to know the Lord, one needs neither wealth nor learning, but one must be obedient and temperate, have a humble spirit, and love one's neighbor. And the Lord will love such a soul, and will reveal Himself to that soul, and teach it love and humility, and will give to it all useful things, in order that it might attain peace in God.
