Nice to meet you, Kaonashi, since I'm new. :)

Ah, fun stuff today. I was so looking forward to all the extra services, and my daughter's car is overheating again. I'm going to try replacing the thermostat today, and she has my car.

It's been many years since I played mechanic. Trimmed my nails short, my hands are already dirty. I found the right size sockets. And I am now watching videos to make sure that's REALLY the thermostat housing before I remove it, but I'm afraid it is. I shouldn't complain. I'm sure a mechanic would laugh at me. It's probably a 5-minute job if I knew what I was doing, and there are MUCH more difficult parts to try to get to.

OTOH, reading troubleshooting articles, I'm starting to wonder why I didn't pursue something mechanical. I kind of like A leads to B, and if not, then C kind of reasoning. It could have suited me. Or maybe not. Maybe I'd get bored with it over time. But I like concrete ways of figuring things out.

    (And I'm obviously stalling here ... )

    Thank God for wonderful neighbors!

My husband helped him at some point with his yard I guess, and he saw the hood up on my daughter's car and offered to help. Which was excellent because the videos were not showing me all I needed to know, and I was missing a wrench I needed.

My husband will be pleased. I'm so glad he's the type of guy he is. He helps the elderly lady next door all the time, and the couple across the street was trying to help him find a job - he did some work to help them out. It helps having neighbors who are so wonderful. :)

Now I need to figure out what I might be able to bake or take to them to thank them. It was very kind of him. I'm praying that God will specially bless him and his family. :)

Just bottled my first batch of beer yesterday. My wife got me the brooklyn brew kit for Christmas and I just this month got around to making it. It was harder than I thought, especially siphoning (dang physics). I'm hoping it turns out well, as I wasn't meticulous about sanitizing as you're supposed to be. Oh well. Two weeks and it's time to drink!

I've been making refrigerator pickles since midsummer and plan a few jars of relish before the garden dies out. I'm ashamed to admit that I made a quart of okra and ate it all by myself. :D

    What a day. :)

I really enjoyed meeting a Presbytera who was visiting us today - she asked a question requiring directions right after I came for Orthros, and then I went to see if she needed more help. I thought she might be a visitor, and didn't know if she was even Orthodox, so I didn't want her to be needing help or be un-greeted ... I found out she's actually a Presbytera and we had a VERY GOOD talk for which I didn't mind missing a few minutes of Orthros. (Our Presbytera is very nice, but very young ... I really enjoyed talking to someone who had converted also and had more experience.)

Then I stayed after to make "pasta" .. not sure what the real name is, but it's shredded filo dough with nuts, butter, custard, cream, and more nuts - we made a dozen pans and it took most of the day. I was so tired when I came home!

Only to find I (or my daughter) managed to lock my bedroom door from the inside. And for some reason it's not one of those I can pop open in 30 seconds with a stiff wire. I had to remove the doorknob and disassemble the inner parts, with very few tools since my husband took most of them out of town with him.

At least I was able to put the doorknob back together although it sticks now. :p I'm going to fix that part later, LOL.

They call it "pasta" but I think just because it looks like that.

Shredded philo dough - and you shred it until none of it sticks together, and arrange it like a huge flat bird nest in a pan. Pour clarified butter over it and bake it just to toast a bit. Make syrup out of cooked sugar and water, pour that over the top, and add chopped toasted walnuts, then press that down, Bake again. It's sticky. Make vanilla pudding and spread that over the top. When it sets up, spread whipped cream over the top. And sprinkled crushed toasted almonds on top.

LOL, I am learning how the stuff is made, but I don't know the names of things yet. It might not even be "officially Greek" ... they were saying some things they make are not, but people like them. This is nearly everyone's favorite dessert, or at least a toss-up with baklava.

LOL I had not looked at that part of the Church's website. I've been enjoying looking at photos of people I know. :)

I wondered how we got community volunteers. Two men were helping today that don't go to the Church.

And yes, that's it! I didn't realize they put the recipe online.

    Good night!
