How do you keep up the faith and motivation to stay faithful when you are in the wilderness?

I feel so empty inside right now. I have not taken any step away from God. What can I do?
Hey there,

Great question. The thing is that oftentimes God uses these times to test us, and ultimately grow us. It sure doesn’t feel like it at the time, but when one reflects upon the examples of the Bible about the people who were in the wilderness (the Israelites, Jesus, etc), we see that God won’t abandon us, but is oftentimes waiting with longsuffering for us to grow out of something or into something.

It can feel like chastisement, or punishment. I’m not going to say that it is isn’t, but it’s also being used by a God that desires only good things for us as his children. Don’t be discouraged. Continue the disciplines! Read the Bible, pray, memorize scripture and meditate. Even evangelism can water the soil of the heart and allow us to grow out of the wilderness we feel we’re in faster.

God bless.

I'm not sure the complexity of your feelings can be dealt with here.

I would encourage you to find someone you can sit with and talk about your relationship with God - your pastor, a church elder, a good Christian friend. The details of how you are feeling need to be sorted out one-by-one.

There is absolutely no question God is with you - grab hold of His hand and keep going. There is light ahead.

Read a gospel, and take your time, really listening to Christ, and you will be renewed each time you realize Who is speaking to us, and truly listen to Him. I even like to read some just before sleeping also, so that I have His words on my mind, as I'm falling asleep. It will change a life to do this.

I went through "spiritual wilderness" during my journey.
It is tough when you are going through..
You wonder whether it will ever end.
---
Continue to wait on the Lord.
- Even though it seems that He is not near..
Lord is with you! - in the midst of wilderness time.
You will be restored/renewed.. In His time.
When you come out of it, you move into another level
of spiritual maturity.
---
I assume you are not new believer.
Go back to your favorite scriptures/verses again.
Listen your favorite songs/hymns.
---
Sometimes, spiritual wilderness is "preparation process"
for new task / assignment.

More of His grace and power to you,

I recall feeling empty, how it looks to me now is that empty places are a garden waiting to happen, what you sow in this place in your life, will return to you in another season of life so you can cultivate it again.
